On behalf of all students and staff in the College of Social Sciences, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support of scholarships in the College and across the wider University community. Scholarships play a vital role in the landscape of support offered by the College of Social Sciences and empower students of all backgrounds to thrive at the University of Glasgow. The College of Social Sciences is leading the Adam Smith Tercentenary celebrations at the University, with several high-profile events taking place in Glasgow and across the world. In April of this year, the Adam Smith Business School hosted the annual Royal Economic Society and Scottish Economic Society Conference, which included a panel session on Adam Smith at 300.
In addition, we have also been hosting events further afield through the Adam Smith Around the World Lecture Series. Over the past few months, events have been held at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, University of Chicago, Peking University, Hong Kong University, University of the West Indies and Australian National University. Each event has been a chance to renew our relationships with our strategic partners and have conversations that strengthen our research and teaching linkages.
We also announced details of the Adam Smith Tercentenary Week which will feature high-profile speakers, including Dr Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Nobel laureate Professor Sir Angus Deaton, along with a range of other commemorative activities.
Our calendar of events has become so busy that the College has started its own Events Bulletin to complement the fortnightly newsletter that we launched in March 2020. Seeing the variety and diversity of these activities is a reminder of the reach and impact that the social sciences have on us all.
