How UofG’s Spring Telephone Campaign is Connecting Generations
The University of Glasgow’s Spring Telephone Campaign is off to a brilliant start, and we want to extend our thanks to the 1,030 alumni and friends who have already picked up the phone to speak with our student callers. Our students have truly enjoyed forging these connections, gaining valuable advice, and sharing stories – the office is always buzzing with energy and conversation.
So far, the generosity of our community has been truly inspiring. An amazing 285 donors have already contributed, helping to raise more than £130,000 to support widening access to education, investing in a healthier tomorrow, and enhancing the student experience. Every gift, no matter the size, plays an important role in transforming students' lives.
These conversations are more than just fundraising. While we are incredibly grateful to those who choose to give, these calls are also a rich source of knowledge, motivation, and encouragement for our students. Kenneth, one of our student callers, shared his thoughts on the experience so far:
“When I initially started out as a student caller, I didn’t realise how much I could become motivated by the stories from the alumni I would be talking to. I have heard them talk about their twists and turns and a lot of mind-blowing career transitions. One phrase that stuck with me is ‘it always turns out well’ and I think that’s a great encouragement for someone who is just beginning their journey. As a scholarship recipient myself, it is also very fulfilling to be part of the university’s efforts to give back to society by helping others to access and complete their university education through the scholarships and bursaries.”
This campaign has also been an opportunity to introduce the new Access to Opportunity Fund. This fund is dedicated to breaking down barriers to higher education ensuring we can continue to adapt and meet the financial and pastoral needs of our student community. From the moment students engage with us, to excelling in their studies, to making the most of everything the University of Glasgow has to offer, this fund ensures that financial hardship never stands in the way of potential.
With a few weeks still to go, we hope those who have received a letter are looking forward to their call. Whether you choose to donate or simply take the time to chat with our students, your involvement makes a difference. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey—together, we are shaping the future of UofG.
