UofG Sports fundraising
At the University of Glasgow, sport is an integral part of the student experience. Glasgow University Sports Association and University of Glasgow Sport work in partnership to give students a space to be active, stay healthy, develop skills, and foster connections and friendships which can last a lifetime.
We are immensely proud of this, and ask for your support to allow our 51 sports clubs to continue striving for improvements whilst maintaining and developing our approaches in the following areas:
- All students more active more often: Our clubs have a proud history of competitive success, with numerous teams and individuals competing at the highest level. Additionally, many of our members participate at a recreational level and aim to develop their sporting skills. By supporting our clubs and bursary programme, you play a vital role in providing the resources necessary for our students to thrive and develop in their sport.
- Student Experience: Through sport, students learn valuable life skills including discipline, teamwork, leadership, and time management, setting them up for success beyond university. By supporting our clubs, you contribute to the development of future leaders who will make a positive difference in society and ensure the UofG Impact is felt across the world.
- Sustainability and Outreach: Our sport clubs actively contribute to the local community through various initiatives, including volunteering, outreach programs, sustainable initiatives, and fundraising. By supporting our clubs, you help us extend our positive impact beyond the campus, creating a stronger connection between the university and the wider community.
- Wellbeing and Inclusion: Sport is vital for the social, mental, and physical health of students. Our sport clubs are open to everyone, regardless of background or skill level. We foster an inclusive environment where individuals from all walks of life can come together. Your donation will help us create opportunities for students to participate in sports they are passionate about and promote diversity within our sporting community.
Your generous donation will make a tangible impact on our sport clubs. It will help us diversify our offering through providing coaching and training facilities, organising competitions and events, offering scholarships and bursaries, and maintaining essential equipment and resources, to name just a few.

Athletics Club

Glasgow University Athletics Club (GUAC) is one of the rare cases in university sport where there is only one team for our club. Everyone is welcome to join, train, and even compete in Scottish University competitions for the club. This has created an amazing community feeling within athletics where no one feels like they don’t belong.
The club currently competes in Scottish University competitions along with indoor and outdoor BUCS. Members of the club often compete in their own time throughout the year while still representing GUAC which we fully encourage.
Outwith our sporting ability, this past semester the club has been flying with community and charity contributions. The club topped the leaderboard for the whole of GUSA for Movember fundraising, collaborated with UofG sport in a food drive for the club’s chosen charity, The Trussell Trust, donated pints and pints of blood to the blood drive on campus, reduced our carbon emissions by staying sustainable – using reusable water bottles, running to training, having meat free Mondays.
The club's main goals for every year are to develop our athletes as much as we can and to ultimately win the competitions on offer to us, remaining the top performing university athletics club in Scotland.
With so many students staying in Glasgow over the summer holiday period, and not a lot of ways to continue athletic training for a lot of students, we aim to provide summer training for them. Allowing them to continue their development over the summer with the club and not put a halt to their progress without having to look at other alternatives within Glasgow.
As mentioned above summer training would allow students to continue their development throughout the summer period where before they would often have to pause their training or look for and pay for other clubs in Glasgow to continue this. Summer training is not free however and donations would allow us to provide this for our members without forcing us to budget heavily that could negatively affect what we provide our members.
Donations would allow us to pay for the facilities at Scotstoun track and have coaches on hand who otherwise would not be available.
Last semester alone we had a multitude of fundraising events: Bake sale, charity pub quiz, ceilidh, 7 a side tournament, individual challenges, face painting, raffle, food drive.

Badminton

Glasgow University Badminton Club, is a fast-growing club with both a large competitive and recreational side. It is open to all players from complete beginners to competitive international athletes!
We have 4 teams competing in BUCS Scottish Mixed Leagues across 3 divisions. We have seen a lot of success with our 1st, 3rd and 4th teams all having won their respective divisions in the past 3 years. Alongside leagues, we compete in events such as BUCS Nationals, Scottish Student Sport individual championships, Men's and Women's Bucs National Trophies, and the Scottish Conference Cup.
Alongside a thriving competitive core, we have a welcoming recreational community. With the now over 200 members we have, approximately 75% of our club is made up of recreational players, where we offer up to 9 hours of recreational badminton per week, an increase of 125% the time offered 5 years ago. This includes coached sessions led by student volunteers.
Currently, we run fundraising competitions throughout the year for both the club and for charity, open to all players whether at the university or not.
Donations to the club would support a variety of club goals. One goal being to provide recreational players with higher quality equipment and opportunities. Donations would allow us to purchase more shuttles and rackets for our recreational players and could allow us to bring in professional coaches to coach a rec development squad.
Donations would also give more opportunities to players to travel to tournaments such as BUCS Nationals and Scottish Student Sport Championships. Support would allow us to bring more players to these events and experience badminton at the highest university level.
With court and shuttle costs rising, your support will keep badminton an affordable and accessible sport for everyone at the university, and will directly help the club continue to grow and develop with the ever-growing community of badminton players we see today

Boat/Rowing Club

Glasgow University Boat Club (GUBC), founded in 1867, has a proud history of success with both our high-performance men’s and women’s squads, as well as our beginner crews. Our 150 members consistently punch above our weight, competing at major events such as BUCS Regatta, Head of the River, and Henley Royal Regatta, often placing alongside or ahead of larger, resource-rich university programmes. We also host and compete in the Scottish Boat Race against the University of Edinburgh, the third-oldest boat race in the world, and an event we are working to further develop to have a similar impact as the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race has.
Rowing is a capital-intensive sport, often favouring larger clubs with greater resources. To level the playing field, we host fundraising events year-round, including quiz nights, ceilidhs, raffles, non-stop rows, and charity card sales. These efforts support essential equipment, competition costs, and membership subsidies to keep the sport accessible. We are also committed to expanding access through a youth outreach project we are hoping to launch to introduce rowing to more young people in Glasgow with the hope of making a lasting impact on our community.
At GUBC, we strive to make rowing an elite sport, not an elitist one. Your support will help us break down barriers, making competitive rowing more accessible for all.

Boxing

Glasgow University Boxing Club is currently made up of a majority recreational membership. However, in the next year we are working to introduce the opportunity for the members to compete in amateur events such as the national championships and home/away shows. We have recently received our boxing Scotland affiliation which will allow us to do
these amateur events.
The club would benefit from your donations as it would allow us to provide our members with essential training supplies - such as better pads/gloves -, competition kit and high-level coaching. This would support our ambition to provide competitive opportunities for our members. Furthermore, we would benefit from your donations as it would allow us to host additional shows throughout the year, allowing more students the opportunity to compete.
Previously we have held fundraising events such as fight nights and bake sales to raise funds for the club. We have also hosted a variety of charity events and campaigns for local and national charities. These include a ceilidh which raised funds for the Maryhill Integration Network and Student Action for Refugees, 'Movember' - where the club raised a total of £2700, which was the 5th highest in the university - and finally, women only self-defence classes held during the 16 days of activism.

Canoe

For over sixty years, Glasgow University Canoe Club has been a home for students seeking something more than just lectures and libraries. For many, it was where they first sat in a boat, first swam a rapid, first felt part of something bigger. More than just a club, GUCC has offered a place to belong, to explore, and to grow; shaping confident paddlers, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories.
We run weekly pool sessions on campus to develop boat control and technique, and this is also when we train for canoe polo. Every two weeks, we head to Glasgow's artificial whitewater course at Pinkston, and throughout the year we run a mixture of day trips and weekend adventures all over Scotland.
Our commitment to development and progression has led to some exciting milestones this year. Two of our members were selected for BUKE 2024 (British Universities Kayaking Expedition), a project that brings together a small group of top university paddlers from across the UK for an international expedition every two years. Three club members also recently qualified as Whitewater Rescue Technician Professionals (WRT-Pro), further supporting the strong safety culture that exists within the club and underpins everything that we do.
Our presence in competitive events is growing. This year, GUCC paddlers proudly represented Glasgow at BUCS, taking part in K1 and C1 slalom, as well as flatwater sprint. Alongside this, every year we host an annual canoe polo tournament (SUS), where this year we entered three teams to compete against other Scottish universities.
Kayaking is an incredible sport, however, it can often prove financially inaccessible without support. GUCC is proud to keep costs low for members, but as equipment ages and is exposed to wear and tear, there is an associated cost to repair or replace.
Fundraising contributions will go directly towards:
● Essential maintenance of club equipment
● Replacing worn-out kit
● Updating our outdated boat inventory
● Accessing training and qualifications such as First Aid, Whitewater Safety, and Whitewater Leader
Now we’re inviting alumni from years gone by to help keep the stoke alive by supporting the current wave of river-runners. This is a chance to give back and help sustain the club for future generations.
Your support can make a real difference to the future of GUCC.

Cricket

At Glasgow University Cricket Club, we currently have 3 teams competing at different levels in a variety of competitions! Our Men’s 1st XI competes in BUCS and have recently just gained promotion to Scottish Division 1 after an incredible season in 2025, winning 3 out of 4 matches and coming top of Scottish Division 2. We also have a growing Women’s team which has been competing in Cricket Scotland’s ‘Wee Bash’ indoor tournament, winning every match they’ve played in 2024/25, with the club hoping to establish a full Women’s 1st XI in coming years. The mixed 2nd XI has also had some great opportunities to play this year, playing Dundee University Cricket Club in a friendly in June 2025 as well as an indoor friendly against Aberdeen University in December 2024 and we hope to see more 2nd XI matches played next season!
With Cricket being one of the fastest growing sports in the world, we’re really hoping our membership will increase in the coming years and we can get more people playing this fantastic sport. Our women’s team in the last three years has seen a growth in membership by 450%, with women of all abilities joining the club and we hope to see this growth club wide. With this growth in membership there is also additional costs to running the club. This includes needing to hire additional facilities for training sessions to handle growing numbers, as well as needing additional equipment, which can be expensive, and as a club that aims to be accessible to all students, the club spends a lot of money to ensure everyone has access to the resources they need. Any donations would be greatly appreciated by the club to ensure we can not only keep running but keep growing!

Cheerleading

The Glasgow University Cheerleading Club is an inclusive, supportive, high-achieving club comprised of six teams of all diKerent abilities, ranging from high-intensity sport to a social, relaxing environment. We have four competitive teams: Level 2, Level 1, Group Stunt and Pom that compete nationally at a high level, one recreational team that offers a social and flexible commitment environment and a brand new development team which will allow athletes to develop skills to progress within the competitive teams.
Our competitive teams represent Glasgow University at a national level and have a high success rate. Our Level 2 team are 6 x National Grand Champions and had an undefeated season in 2024, whilst our Level 1 team secured back-to-back Grand Champion titles in 2024 and 2025. Our pom team is exceptionally technical and regained their National Champion title in 2025, whilst Group Stunt are 2 x Grand Champions, competing in Scotland and Nationally.
To help us continue developing our athletes’ abilities and expanding the club, we are looking to buy tumbling equipment this year, such as an air track and mats, which are essential tools that allow us to train key cheerleading skills in a safe environment. Having this equipment on campus would make training much more accessible.
We are a club that relies on our fundraising efforts throughout the year. Your donations would directly support making cheer, an often expensive sport, more accessible and affordable to everyone. We host bake sales, have an annual club fundraiser, and our biggest event is our annual showcase, where all teams perform their routine to friends and family. Additionally, we run our annual charity fundraiser, which is a huge success each year, usually raising over £1000 for a Glasgow-based charity important to the club and/or the organising convenor.
We are proud to operate a uniform bank to reduce costs for our members and, in turn, improve our club’s sustainability. Moreover, one of the club’s proudest achievements is our outreach programme, which began in 2022 and connects the club to the Glasgow Community. We have three cheer clubs within local primary schools, which are all invited to perform at our annual showcase. With the success of this programme, the club voted to start a charity to further our outreach efforts which we will begin developing this academic year, something your donations would massively add to.
Every donation can help us build a stronger, safer club that supports its members and allows us to enhance our connection with the community we have built. With your support, we can provide the equipment and opportunities our athletes need to thrive,
both on and off the mat. Thank you for reading! <3

Curling Club

Glasgow University Curling Club (GUCC) currently have 1 SSS League team and 4 SSS Open teams.
Our club membership numbers have increased over the last 5 years, and we aim to continue this by outreaching to junior curling clubs to advertise student curling.
We are also trying to fund equipment to make curling accessible for beginners, as this can be a barrier for newer members.
The club have hosted bake sales to fundraise for ice fees, brush pads, delivery sticks, and sliders and much more.
Our future fundraising efforts aim to continue funding for equipment and to subsidise ice and competition costs to encourage new members to join our club.

Fencing

Glasgow University Fencing Club
We currently have four teams representing the club: the Men’s 1st Team competes in the BUCS Premier League North, and our Men’s 2nd and Women’s 1st and 2nd Teams all compete in the Scottish Student Fencing Centralized League. Alongside regular competitions, we offer weekly beginner sessions on Wednesdays, sparring on Fridays, and full training on Saturdays. Our members also come together for social events like our weekly “Bank Street Fridays.”
We're fundraising to help cover the costs of:
- Replacing and repairing essential fencing equipment and pistes
- Paying our coaches and assistant coaches for their time and expertise
- Upgrading and organizing our equipment storage to make setup and takedown easier and more efficient
- Supporting our head armorer with materials to maintain and improve our gear
Donations will go directly toward keeping the club safe, functional, and accessible to everyone—whether that’s buying new and second-hand kit, investing in better storage, or making sure our coaches and volunteers are supported.
Every contribution helps us continue to offer a high-quality experience for all our members, from first-time fencers to national-level competitors.

Golf

The University of Glasgow Golf Club is a welcoming and ambitious community open to all students — from experienced competitors to complete beginners. We currently field two teams in BUCS competitions, with our 1st team competing in Scottish Tier 2 and our 2nd team in Scottish Tier 4, proudly representing the University on courses across Scotland and beyond. But we’re more than just a competitive club — we’re a close-knit group that values inclusion, development, and making golf accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience.
While our focus is on competition and growing the sport, we’re also working to strengthen our presence within the wider university community. Our members regularly compete in BUCS individual events and are committed to building a positive, welcoming culture where every player — from recreational to high-performance — feels supported and part of the team.
We’re now fundraising to make golf more affordable and sustainable for students. Your support will help cover key costs like competition travel, course access, and the development of a new beginner and social golf programme. In the future, we hope to introduce structured coaching and indoor winter training — ensuring students can improve and stay involved year-round. Every donation helps us break down financial barriers and keep golf at Glasgow inclusive, ambitious, and open to all.

Gymnastics

Glasgow University Gymnastics Club strives to create a welcoming and supportive community for gymnasts of all backgrounds and abilities. Every gymnast in our club has the opportunity to compete in a variety of levels. We accommodate a range of gymnasts, with some experienced and some trying out the sport for the first time. Many of our gymnasts enjoyed this sport in their younger years and rediscovered their love for the sport during their university studies.
In the previous year we have performed well in both artistic and acro Scottish competitions including the Stirling University Gymnastics open and the Scottish University Gymnastics Championships. Next year we intend to increase participation, encouraging beginner athletes to compete. As a growing club, we are dedicated to welcoming more beginners and next year we plan to introduce a reduced membership in effort to improve financial accessibility and bring new people to gymnastics.
Currently the club trains twice a week, with only one training session held in a gymnastics facility. Our other training session is held in a university sports hall, this massively lacks the equipment required for gymnasts to progress. For example, the club would like to purchase a crashmat, allowing members to train complex skills safely. Being in the financial position to have a second training session in a gymnastics facility would be optimal for growth and improvement within the club. To continue to grow as a club, we also require additional coaching. This can only be made possible with further funding.
We currently offer the opportunity to support gymnasts through qualifications in judging and coaching, however this is on a limited scale. With donations we will be able to put more gymnasts through training courses and increase the number of judges/coaches in our club in the future.
As the club plans to compete in more competitions in the following year, including BUCS, subsidising travel and accommodation costs is vital. Each gymnast will benefit massively from donations as it will allow them to progress with the necessary equipment, increasing quality in competitions.
Previous fundraising efforts include a ceilidh, bake sales and ‘bring a buddy’ sessions. Our bake sales are particularly successful with around £250 being raised during this event in the previous year. These efforts allowed for the purchase of new leotards, boosting team moral and allowing us to present as a unified team at competitions. Next year we aspire to build on the success of last year, holding similar events and introducing new ideas such as a sponsored handstand walk. With your support, we can continue to grow our community and enhance the experience for all our gymnasts.

Hares and Hounds

The past few years has been an unprecedented period of growth for Hares and Hounds, not just in membership numbers but also in engagement across training sessions, races, socials, and charity events. Our membership has grown significantly, from fewer than 150 members in 2022/2023 to over 180 members in 2023/2024, reaching an impressive record total of 221 as of January 2025. This has led to increased turnout for events across the club, whether that be socials, our “easy miles”, interval sessions, or races! However; the cost of race entries, coaching, transport and accommodation for large scale events such as BUCS XC is ever-growing, and in recent years the club has found it difficult to cover these costs whilst keeping our membership at an affordable price for young students.
The club has seen record attendances at races over the past two academic years. In the 2023/24 season the club won the 2nd division Lindsay’s Trophy which rewards turnout at races, and this focus on attendance has continued in the first semester of 2024, with the club continuing to have excellent turnouts at many races. A highlight here is the Scottish National Short Course XC Championships, where (at U20/senior level), the club had the 3rd highest turnout of any athletics club in Scotland. We were comfortably the largest university club in attendance, with more competitors than Edinburgh, St. Andrews and Strathclyde universities combined! At the most recent BUCS XC event in 2024, our women's A team had the highest-ranking performance we have seen from either of our A teams in the history of the club. They came in a remarkable 5th place, only beaten out by universities such as Loughborough and Birmingham, who have invested significantly larger amounts of money into their distance running programmes. Our women's team also took Gold at the Allan Scally Relay championships (where they were competing not just with university clubs, but against some of the most prestigious athletics/XC clubs in Scotland). Our men’s A team also came 16th at BUCS XC in 2024 and were the second placed Scottish team.
The growth in engagement and achievement of our club is helping to give Glasgow University a highly respectable reputation in the distance running community. We as a club have helped encourage this high level of race turnout by purchasing kit such as official Hares and Hounds vests, which we in turn have been able to loan to new members of the club, or members who may not be financially able to purchase their own vests. Being able to sport the proper kit at races helps members feel like a proper part of the team and has undoubtedly improved our race turnouts in previous years. We’ve also invested in our performance aspect more than ever before this year, through the introduction of our performance convener and self-funded performance bursaries, which have ensured that high performing athletes remain incentivised to race on our behalf.
All these costs have been invaluable investments into the performance and community of the club, and we are positive that if we were able to invest more in these key areas, the growth we would see would be even more significant. Higher funds within the club would also allow us to spend more money in other areas, such as investing in our annual alumni ball which have presented the opportunity to improve connections with alumni members of the club, or on further breaking down economic barriers to the sport by supplying more expensive pieces of kit such as running trainers to those in need.
The club has made great efforts to fundraise our own funds through things such as our annual 5 mile road race at Garscube, (which also provides a route to community outreach as runners from across Glasgow/Scotland would come and attend), as well as extending our efforts to fundraising for various charities, such as through our 24 hour Movember fundraiser run. We plan to continue these efforts regardless of any extra revenue we may receive.

Judo
Glasgow University Judo Club (GUJC) is more than just a sports club — it’s a welcoming, inclusive community where students of all levels can discover the discipline, strength, and camaraderie that judo offers. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a black belt competitor, everyone trains together in a supportive and empowering environment.
Our members proudly represent GUJC at Scottish Student Sport (SSS) events and the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships. Over the years, our athletes have brought home medals, personal bests, and unforgettable memories — while building a reputation for grit, humility, and sportsmanship.
Off the mat, GUJC is deeply committed to making a positive impact. We’ve collaborated with UofG Sport to promote mental wellbeing through martial arts. Additionally working alongside other martial arts clubs to promote a wider community participation.
As we continue to grow, we’re looking to break down the barriers that can prevent students from experiencing everything judo has to offer — especially access to affordable training and competition opportunities. Many students struggle with costs related to equipment, travel, and tournament entry fees.
Your support can help us level the playing field.
With your donation, we can:
• Provide subsidised judo suits and essential gear for new members,
• Support travel and entry costs for national and international competitions, and
• Offer support for the club in running our very own team’s competition.
Every contribution ensures that no student is held back by financial limitations — and that GUJC remains a place where passion, perseverance, and personal growth thrive.
Join us in throwing our support behind the next generation of judo athletes — both on and off the mat.

Lacrosse Club

Glasgow University Lacrosse Club (GULC) is currently composed of five teams, including three BUCS League teams: Men's 1’s Team (Men’s Scottish Tier 1), Women's 1st Team (Women’s Scottish Tier 1) and Women's 2nd Team (Women’s Scottish Tier 2). And two non-competitive teams: Women's 3rd Team (new from 2023) and the Women's Recreational Team
Several of our players play lacrosse on an international level, representing Scotland and beyond. In the women's half of the club, we have members competing in the World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship, Home Internationals and the BUCS Lacrosse 6s: Trophy.
In our men’s half, we have players competing in the Eurolax Mens 6s tournament, European Men's Lacrosse Championships, and Ebox (European Box Lacrosse Championship), with GULC Alumni competing at the Men's World Box Championships.
With our membership at £50 for an entire year, we are one of the most financially accessible clubs on campus. With our Annual membership, GULC members receive:
- All equipment provided
- 2 sessions a week (with 1 externally coached session a week)
- Transport to training
- Socials every fortnight
- Friendlies with other teams in Scotland outside of BUCS
- And great player development opportunities
We would be incredibly grateful for any donation, as we are seeking to replace a significant amount of our men's equipment. A set of basic men's equipment costs £300, which is 6 times as much as we charge annually. This means upkeep of this equipment is very costly for the
club. Furthermore, safety for our players is our number one priority, and the heavy contact nature of the men's game means it's vital that they are fully protected. Our men's team is growing year on year, so it's important that there is enough legal and safe equipment, especially considering it's more costly and at a higher risk of damage. Last year, one of our American exchange students' family graciously donated to the club, and over the summer, we received a donation of Men's kit which contained gloves and elbow padding that the club was planning on purchasing. This meant we could invest the funds into specialty equipment like D-poles, as they are more expensive than a regular stick, which has defensively empowered our men's team and they currently sit at 2nd in their league. Furthermore, a donation of an alumnus Goalie Kit, meant our Women's 3rd team now has their own kit to use at matches and training, instead of using the 1s or 2s club kit. This encouraged a 3s player to try the Goalie position as the kit was now available to them whenever they needed it.
With Lacrosse Sixes entering the Olympics in 2028, it would be wonderful to receive any donation that will help the club advance and grow its membership opportunities. Fundraising for equipment will enable us to support a new generation of players by keeping membership costs down and providing quality equipment to all levels of players, to remain accessible to everyone. This also means that we can use club funds to support players and their development in other areas like competitive tournaments, friendlies and refereeing and coaching courses.

Men's Basketball Club

The Glasgow University Men’s Basketball Club (GUMBC)
Currently, we have 4 men's teams, 1 being the international Chinese team, 2 women’s
teams and 1 REC team. We are looking to establish a 4th team in the club due to huge demand from the recreational team, but we do not currently have the funds to book court space for a 4th team.
Our competitive teams have been established for a number of decades now, with the 3rd team re-entering BUCS as of 2023.
The teams compete in the following leagues:
- 1st Team: BUCS 1
- 2nd Team: BUCS 2 & SLBA (Local league) Division 2
- 3rd Team: BUCS 5 & SLBA Division 2
- Chinese international team: SLBA Division 3
We have had significant recent success as a club:
- We are back-to-back champions of the international Les Parisiennes tournament
- BUCS 3 Champions (2nd team) 2023/24
- BUCS 1 Champions (1st team) 2021/22
- The third team were entered into BUCS 5 this year
- The recreational team remains popular and invites the possibility of a 4th team being added if we can raise funds to book hall space
The University of Glasgow Men’s Basketball Club strives to foster a sense of community, teamwork, and excellence both on and off the court. The club aims to:
Promote Basketball Excellence: Provide an environment for players to improve their skills, compete at various levels, and achieve personal and team success in regional and national competitions. One of our key goals is to secure our third title at the prestigious Les Parisiennes tournament, showcasing our team’s talent on an international stage.
Continue the Growth of our Recreational and Competitive Team Programmes:
Implementing a fourth competitive team and increasing the number of available sessions for the recreational team would continue the promotion of basketball at the University and allow us to expand the club.
Build a Supportive Community: Create a welcoming space for students of all skill levels and backgrounds to engage with basketball, whether competitively or socially.
Develop Leadership and Personal Growth: Offer opportunities for members to take on leadership roles, develop responsibility, and enhance personal growth through involvement in club activities and management.
Expand the Sport’s Reach: Actively engage with the wider university community to promote basketball and inspire more students to get involved in the sport.
Donations to the University of Glasgow Men’s Basketball Club will have a significant and lasting impact, benefiting both the club and its members in various ways:
- Enhancing Training and Performance
- Equipment Upgrades: Donations will allow the purchase of high-quality basketballs, training gear, and performance equipment.
- Facilities Access: Funds can help secure better training facilities and additional practice hours. This is vital for the development of a fourth team and to expand the outreach our recreational team has.
- Coaching Support: Donations can contribute to hiring experienced coaches or funding specialized training sessions to refine skills and strategies.
- Example: Previous financial support allowed us to upgrade our training equipment and secure additional skills sessions, contributing to our victories in BUCS league competitions. This shows how targeted investments in resources can translate to improved performance on the court.
- Supporting Competitive Opportunities
- Tournament Participation: Financial support will enable the club to cover travel, accommodation, and registration costs for key competitions.
- Team Unity: By easing financial burdens, donations will ensure all players can participate in these opportunities, fostering inclusivity and team cohesion.
- Example: Donations enabled our team to travel and compete internationally, including securing two titles at the prestigious Les Parisiennes tournament. These successes not only highlight the skill and dedication of our players but also elevate the university's reputation on a global stage.

Men's Football Club

Glasgow University Football Club (GUFC) is a student run, performance driven, inclusive club that boasts five competitive teams playing weekly in BUCS and various Saturday leagues. We have over 100 players training twice a week at Garscube sports complex, with high commitment to developing both themselves and as a team.
Our First Team holds an official SFA license and competes within the West of Scotland Football Pyramid. In addition to their league commitments, the team also participates annually in the Scottish Cup – one of the oldest competitions in world football. This tournament presents a unique opportunity for our players to test themselves against professional opposition and potentially progress through an exciting and high-profile cup run, further raising the profile of the club.
In addition to our competitive teams, we run a Development Programme designed for newcomers and casual players. This includes weekly training sessions and a highly popular 7-a-side tournament, which runs throughout each semester and attracts over 150 participants. It’s a fantastic way for new players to get involved and become part of the GUFC community.
As well as commitment on the pitch, we at GUFC also commit to support important causes off the pitch. Each year we host the “Diddies” 6-a-side in memory of former player Craig Henderson, raising funds for the JMA trust. We also co-host an annual charity ceilidh with the Women’s football club.
By donating to GUFC, you’ll be directly supporting the purchase of kit, facility bookings, and coach development. No matter the amount, big or small, one thing is certain: your contribution will make a meaningful difference to every player in the club.
Thanks

The Glasgow University Men’s Hockey Club (GUMHC) is thriving, currently fielding three teams in BUCS and Scottish Hockey/West District leagues, with a fourth team training weekly and aiming for league entry within the next two years. Our competitive spirit is strong across all levels:
- 1st XI: BUCS Scottish Tier 1 & Scottish National League
- 2nd XI: BUCS Scottish Tier 2 & Scottish Regional 2
- 3rd XI: BUCS Scottish Tier 3 & West District Division 2
- Indoor 1st XI: National 3
- Indoor 2nd XI: West District Indoor League
Recent achievements highlight our dedication to excellence. We've come within a single point of promotion to the premiership in recent years and have achieved promotion to Indoor National 2, with our sights set on returning.
We're committed to enhancing our performance setup, developing our 4th XI, and expanding our outreach program to local schools. To achieve these goals, we're actively fundraising for key initiatives:
- Dedicated 1st XI Coach & Video Analysis Equipment: We aim to hire a dedicated 1st XI coach to work alongside our current shared coach, significantly boosting our performance level and aiding our premiership push. Access to video analysis equipment, a previously unsuccessful funding request from the university, is also crucial for player development.
- New Goalie Kit: Providing essential equipment ensures accessibility for new players interested in goalkeeping, fostering growth at all levels.
Donations directly support both performance and recreational aspects of the club. Investing in our 1st XI attracts more players to the university and club, raising our competitive profile and enabling us to enter our 4th team into league play, offering competitive opportunities for beginners. Our near-miss promotion after hiring a more experienced coach demonstrates the impact of strategic investment. Your support will:
- Enhance inclusivity: Provide beginner hockey kit and goalie equipment, removing financial barriers to participation.
- Fuel our premiership pursuit: Fund a dedicated coach and video analysis, mirroring the success of other universities investing in their hockey programs.
- Support future development: Lay the groundwork for future initiatives, such as player scholarships.
We're proud of our fundraising efforts for various charities. Last year, we raised over £2,000 for the PEEK charity through events such as ceilidhs, fun runs, and bake sales. This year, we're supporting Glasgow Children’s Hospital with similar initiatives, including an upcoming ceilidh. We also actively participate in campaigns like Movember and Rainbow Laces, promoting men's mental health and LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Men's Rugby Club

The Glasgow University Men's Rugby Club is a founding member of the Scottish Rugby Union and has fielded thirteen full internationalists.
Competitive
The Performance Squad gives rugby players at the University the opportunity to train and play to their full potential, whilst studying to gain a world class degree. Players in this squad will receive the following support: ·
- Year-round supervised strength & conditioning, including exclusive use of the club sport gym.
- Video analysis sessions
- Physiotherapy support and appointments
- Player reviews with the high-performance coach
- Position specific coaching
Teams
The club currently has 4 University teams that compete on a Wednesday, along with a team that plays on a Saturday. The 1st XV currently compete in BUCS North Premier 2, following a promotion at the end of the 2024-25 year. The 1st XV also play in the annual Glasgow Varsity Match against The University of Strathclyde at Scotstoun. The 2nd XV currently compete in BUCS Scottish 2A and won the Scottish Conference Cup in the 22/23 season. The 3rd XV compete in BUCS 3A and won the league in 23/24. The 4th team has been introduced for the 2025-26 year. The Saturday team play in West Reserve League 2.
Recreational
We have a new partnership Hillhead Jordanhill RFC which merges the non-BUCS players of the GURFC and Hillhead players and acts in place of the Hills 3XV team. This team operates on a Saturday and has taken the West Reserve League Division 2 by storm with many convincing victories. Although a more recreational and social team, they still play at a great standard and provide some of the most entertaining games. The fun doesn’t end on the pitch, as it has become a tradition to celebrate results afterwards with inspiration from GURFC socials to include boys who are not able to play on a Wednesday. The 4XV Colts perfectly embody the ethos of the GURFC and it has been the beginning of a successful partnership with Hillhead RFC.
Recent Achievements or developments
As of the beginning of February, our 1st XV are sitting at the top of Scottish 1A league looking for promotion into Men’s Premier league. Both the 2nd and 3rd XV are in the Quarter finals of the Men’s Scottish conference cup. We are also currently at our highest membership levels of recent years and looking to introduce another BUCS team in the 2025/26 season.
In semester one, we raised over £3,000 for Movember finishing 3rd out of the university clubs by level of fundraising. Additionally, we have partnered with Spirit rugby balls to support mental health charities (10% of the profits went to our chosen charity Looseheadz) as well as taking part in FARE’s Toy appeal to support disadvantaged families in Easterhosue.
In semester two, we are looking to continue our positive contribution to both the university and wider community and are interested to be involved in opportunity to do so.
What are we trying to achieve?
On the field we are looking to continue the successes of the teams and look for respective league promotions each season.
Off the field, we are looking to continue to make the club a welcoming and inclusive place for anyone to grow their love for the game of rugby and develop their skills. Additionally we are continuing to build and support relations with the Women’s rugby club which has been greatly mutually beneficial in regards to supporting each other on and off the field.
What is the need and how will your support be used?
Your contribution is greatly appreciated by all members of the club and will be used effectively for each team in their efforts to win their respective leagues and to heighten the individual player experience of playing for a university team. Support is needed to continue the performance development of each team which will be achieved through highly dedicated and qualified coaches, strength and conditioning programs, travel costs for away games and equipment to ensure every training session prepares us for our matches. Increased funding will also help us support our future goals and projects such as introducing a fourth BUCS team and continue to support our recreational team in their partnership with Hillhead Jordanhill RFC.
Players will benefit from the increased quality of training sessions as well as greater opportunities to play for teams which suit their level of ability which will foster development into higher teams.

Muay Thai

The Glasgow University Muay Thai is the largest non-team sports club in Glasgow, offering some of the highest quality Muay Thai coaching on the university scene.
We have over 300 members a year, and aim to compete in Muay Thai GB this year (the GB Muay Thai equivalent of BUCs).
We’ve also recently expanded our horizons by bringing 30 members 6,000 miles to Thailand to experience Muay Thai in its birthplace. Offering not only training, but allowing members to integrate into Thai culture by living and training alongside local coaches and gyms.
Performing incredible trips like this, paying for equipment, and paying for high quality coaching is no small feat, and as such we would love if any alumni could donate even a small amount to help continue to make this possible.
Any donations would go towards maintaining kit, assisting in funding outreach in the local area and allowing for such big trips like our one this year to Thailand to become more regular. Donations also allow for widening access providing the ability to provide affordable kit, shin guards to borrow, and allowing the partial funding of away trips to members who many not be able to afford it without such measures.
The club itself has also given back in many meaningful ways:
- Raising £11,200 for Movember over the last three years
- Raising £700 for NJO (a charity empowering underprivileged communities across
Africa with aid and educational resources) - Providing free of charge Muay Thai sessions to local schools, bringing a different lens of sport to children who wouldn’t traditionally experience it”

Netball Club

Glasgow University Netball Club (GUNC) currently has 6 teams competing in BUCS. We introduced our 5s for the start of the 2023/24 season, and the following year (2024/25) added another team- our 6s. These teams have both been highly successful winning Div 8 of BUCS in their first year. For the 2025/26 season we are aiming to enter a third team into the GNA league. This would be with a focus on the development of our 4s-6s allowing them to have more match time.
Aside from playing BUCS and related competitions, we also participate in the Netball Scotland National League (previously streamed on BBC Sport Scotland), Glasgow Netball Association (GNA), the Scottish Cup and Taxis Cup – a competition between the three universities in Glasgow: University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde, and Glasgow Caledonian University.
We currently have two teams competing in GNA. Our GNA 1s competing in the top division (div 1) whilst our 2s compete in division 2 following promotion from division 3 last season. Our 1s with support from the 2s and other performance squad players play in National League. This year is the third season we have competed in the high-performance Netball Scotland competition.
Last season, we had numerous successes with our 2s being promoted to BUCS Scottish Tier 1 joining our 1s in the highest BUCS tier in Scotland. Our 3s were promoted to BUCS Scottish Tier 3, our 4s promoted to Scottish Tier 6 and our 5s were also promoted to BUCS Scottish Tier 7, after only one season of participating in BUCS. Our 6s, a newly established BUCS team for the coming season, also won the Scottish Student Sport Rec Tournament.
This year (2024/2025), our 4s won division 6 of BUCS – gaining promotion to division 5.
The 5s won division 7 – gaining promotion to division 6.
The 6s won division 8 – gaining promotion to division 7.
This season, the club has gained a ‘Head of Netball’ and introduced a strong performance programme.
A few years ago, we bought new dresses for our first and second teams. This year, we were able to buy the same style for our third and fourth teams. Therefore, to ensure a uniformed look across the club we would be looking to get these dresses for our fifth and sixth team too - and if possible, in the future also for our development and recreational teams. We know other university netball clubs have already achieved this and it is our aim to match and better these standards. This would create cohesion and demonstrate that we are one club. The approximate cost for 30 dresses is £1500.
At the start of the academic year, we completed our first annual fundraiser- the sale of our club socks, aka ‘GUNC socks’. We buy these in off Netball UK for £5 a pair and then sell them on to club members for £8 a pair, or £13 for two pairs. This gave us £3 of profit per pair that we sold - and selling over 50 pairs contributed to our fundraising efforts! Having club socks is something that all members across the club seem to really enjoy and so this acts as a great fundraiser to get the season started!
Our second fundraiser of semester one was ‘Lucky Squares’. This was something new for the club and involved selling 100 numbered squares for £3 each. After all the squares had been bought, we spun a wheel that had all the numbers on it to decide our winners. Following this fundraiser, we raised £225 for our club.
Each year, the netball club runs a fundraising ceilidh around Burn’s night. Through ticket sales and raffle sales we made £550 from this event!
Just before Christmas, we ran a ‘festive food drive’ where we collected food supplies to give to ‘Glasgow NW Foodbank’, which is partnered with Trussells. This food bank collection provided our club with an opportunity to give back to the community during the festive period: a time when food banks struggle the most to meet the demands of so many individuals requiring support. The response to our campaign was immense and we were incredibly grateful for all the donations that we received! Our donations were then sent to the foodbank alongside the larger GUSA food drive.
We also have our very first Charity Tournament organised for the end of February, with all money raised on the night going to our chosen charity - Glasgow Women’s Aid. Being an all-women's club, Glasgow Women’s aid aligns with our values as a club. We are so excited to be able to organise this fun event and raise money for this extremely important charity.

Sailing
The Glasgow University Sailing Club (GUSC), established in 1912, has a long and proud history which we build upon with our continuous achievements.
We train at Bardowie Loch, just outside of Glasgow. We host weekly sailing sessions for anyone, whether you are a novice sailor or want to develop your skills. We send three teams to competitions around Scotland, England and Ireland. We hope to develop a fourth team due to growing talent and demand.
Specialising in Team Racing, our teams have excelled across Scottish Student Sailing competitions. Even sending a team to British University Sailing Association’s Playoffs two years in a row. In addition, one of our women’s teams went on to place 3rd in BUSA Women’s competition this February.
We hope to develop our Beginner’s section of the club this year, where members can build upon their sailing skills and work towards RYA qualifications. At Bardowie we provide a fun and safe environment allowing students to get experience and create friendships. After which, we host weekly get togethers with elaborate themes to build connections off the water.
This year we are focusing on expanding the Yachting side of our club. In the hope of enticing more sailors who specialise in Keelboating to join our club. So far, we have excelled at keelboating competitions. Partaking in Ceilidh Cup, SSS Keelboating and sending a team to Scottish Series. In addition, two GUSC members placed first in an offshore race, the Ailsa Craig. This year we want to send a team of students to BUCS Yachting Week, where they can hone their skills and network with students from all over the country.
Grouse is a beloved event, hosted annually by our club and acting as our main fundraiser. Not only is it a competitive open team racing event, but it is also the social event of the year with a Ceilidh that is a cannot-miss! As the first team racing event of the year, Grouse is a great opportunity for our sailors to get back into their sailing groove and check out the competition.
Glasgow Grouse is vital for supporting our club. Key for maintaining equipment, competition costs and facilities to help keep the club accessible to all students. We are committed to expanding our club; thus, the maintenance of our boats is essential to ensure student’s safety as well as improving training to increase our teams’ successes. However, this is incredibly costly and there are always improvements needed to be done.
In addition to Grouse, we hope to start an Alumni event or Ceilidh to grow the relationships between GUSC members old and new. This would be a great way for past members to come back, relive their student sailing days and share their experience.

Swimming and Water Polo Club

Glasgow University Swimming & Water Polo Club (GUSWPC) is a vibrant, inclusive club that welcomes everyone - from complete beginners to seasoned athletes. Whether you’re diving into competitive racing, trying water polo for the first time, or just looking to stay active, GUSWPC has a place for you.
Our swimmers and water polo teams compete throughout the year in BUCS, Scottish University Championships, and national leagues. We’re proud of our strong competitive record, including winning both the Men’s and Women’s Water Polo leagues in 2021-22. But performance isn’t everything - we also offer a recreational swimming programme and support first-time polo players with structured, friendly coaching.
Outside the pool, GUSWPC is known for its supportive community and lively socials. As we continue to grow, we rely on fundraising to help cover competition travel, equipment costs, and ensure everyone - regardless of experience or background -can get involved.
Your support helps us keep swimming and water polo accessible, competitive, and above all, fun.

Shinty Club

Glasgow University Shinty Club (GUSC) welcomes players of all abilities to try their hand at shinty, a unique and fast-paced Scottish contact sport. Played with long curved sticks (camans) and a small ball, shinty has roots going back to the 7th century, and we’re proud to continue its rich tradition at Glasgow.
GUSC is a highly successful club, with the women’s team recently winning the 2023/24 SSS league for the second consecutive year. We also boast numerous players selected for the Scottish Students Representative Squad, showcasing talent at an international level. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned athlete from another sport like hockey, football, or rugby, there’s a place for you in our community.
Off the pitch, GUSC thrives with a packed calendar of social events, including scavenger hunts, ceilidhs, and our annual sixes tournament. We also go on an exciting international tour to Ireland to play a combined rules game with hurling -always a highlight of the year.
To keep our club thriving, we rely on fundraising to support our training, equipment, and travel for tournaments. Your support helps us continue making shinty accessible to all while keeping it competitive and fun.

Ski and Snowboard

Glasgow University Ski and Snowboard Club (GUSSC) is one of the largest and most active University Snowsports clubs in the UK, with close to 1,000 members annually. Our club plays a central role in both the University’s sports and social culture.
GUSSC has a large Competitive Team with around 100 athletes and our club has roughly 1,000 members (incl non-competitive active members). We are proud to have won 9 consecutive BUCS Snowsports Championships and 9 consecutive SUDS (Scottish University DrySlope) titles, with several athletes competing at World University Championships level. We continue to grow our presence competitively and socially, with a view to increasing both participation and performance in the coming seasons.
Each year, we take nearly 600 students on our flagship ski trip to the Alps, where we host a full itinerary of events and offer subsidised lessons to improve accessibility. We also run impactful and inclusive events throughout the year, such as our Girls Only Nights, which saw over 130 attendees across two sessions last season. These events aim to create a safer and more welcoming environment for women entering Snowsports - a space that can otherwise be quite daunting.
Last year, we raised over £1000 for Disability Snowsport UK, a charity dedicated to making skiing accessible for those with disabilities. We contributed significantly to Movember, hosting events like charity football tournaments, team runs, and awareness campaigns via social media. Much of this was achieved through raffles at high-attendance socials (e.g., our 700+ person Cheese & Wine Trip Launch) and proactive student-led initiatives.
Alumni Support would help us immensely with growing and giving back to our members. It would help us to replace and expand our equipment pool to increase access for all students, especially those new to the sport, purchase essential safety gear, promoting safer skiing and riding for our athletes and trip participants, subsidise lessons and training, enabling students who may otherwise be priced out to try snowsports and deliver more inclusive initiatives, such as Girls Only Nights and beginner-friendly events, ensuring our club is welcoming and empowering for all.
These donations directly support students — helping us maintain the inclusive, high-quality experience we are proud to offer.

Skydiving Club

University of Glasgow Skydiving Club (UGSC) help people to qualify to become solo skydivers and progress further in the sport. We are aiming to start a rookie formation skydiving team with a few members and Alumni to compete at a national level.
We have supported several students to complete their first freefall, a huge milestone as it is the first time a student jumps and deploys their own parachute. We had one member recently attain their British skydiving A-licence allowing them to skydive anywhere in the world, a further 3 attain their B-licences, and 2 members attain their C-licences.
To help university students progress in an expensive and sometimes inaccessible sport the club is always looking to purchase equipment to help mitigate the cost for club members. This equipment can then go on to be used for years by successive members. Often the equipment costs in skydiving prove the biggest barrier into the sport, especially when it comes to purchasing a parachute system. By allowing students to use club kit this cost can be put to one side while they are studying, allowing them access to the sport while at university without having to take on any unnecessary financial burden.
Thank you for your support.

Surf

At Glasgow University Surf (GUS) we aim to give our members the best access to surfing we possibly can, always striving to keep our costs as low as possible while having loads of quality kit and some incredible trips lined up. We love opening up surfing to complete beginners and many of our members have been just that.
The most important part of the club are our regular trips around the UK and Abroad! We run around 8 daytrips a semester to the East coast for a day out at the beach and to give people a chance to practice their surfing. On these we often take registered coaches providing everyone with an opportunity to learn.
We now are lucky enough to have Lost Shore (the biggest wave pool in Europe) just an hour drive from Glasgow. This gives our members to develop massively both at beginner level and at intermediate and advanced levels. While our members have a great discount when going on student days it is still a costly experience. As a club we have sought to minimise this and have been subsidising travel costs. We would love to be able to keep this going!
We also run two weekend trips a semester to hostels around Scotland. These are a great opportunity to get to know other members of the club as well as getting in a bunch of surfing.
Our winter and summer abroad trip are also brilliant opportunities to meet new friends and try surfing somewhere a little bit warmer than Scotland! These trips are always open to absolutely every member of the club, and everyone is welcome, they usually sell out fast!
We compete in BUCS down in Cornwall every year and Scottish surf championships in Aberdeen (which our women’s team came 4th this year). With lost shore now available to us we hope to create a much more competitive team for future events and bring more people up to competition level.
To round out the year we have a big club competition called foamie fest where everyone competing has to ride ‘beginner foamies’! As most of our members are new to the sport this competition is run to give everyone the chance to compete and show off what you’ve learned throughout the year!
To train on land, we organise a weekly Yoga Session and have weekly Surfskate sessions that allow us to practice our balance and technique on land (Glaswegian weather permitting). Most importantly, there is never any obligation to come to these sessions, they are relaxed training sessions that all skill levels are welcome to come and improve their skating and mobility, or even just come along to watch and have a chat!
The club has a great collection of kit that help make surfing more access to our
members. With a membership we provide.
* Free Surfboard hire from our stock of over 50 boards
* The Cheapest Wetsuit hire in Scotland
* Free Surfskate Hire
* Access to our Weekly Yoga and Surfskate sessions
* A free T-shirt (we run an annual competition for the design)
* Access to all trips.
We would love to able to maintain the quality of our kit, expand our selection of boards, and continue to run our incredible trips. All of this is incredibly expensive however and trying to keep the cost to our members down is difficult. Any donations you can make will help this club and will always be put to making surfing enjoyable and accessible to all.

Table Tennis

Glasgow University Table Tennis Club is open to students of all abilities whether you're a complete beginner or someone looking to compete with our teams in the league and various individual competitions throughout the year. The club has more casual sessions and structured training sessions for students to get involved in.
The club has teams competing in a centralised league in Scotland. The BUCS Men's Scottish Tier 1 and Women Scottish Tier 1. Competitions apart from the leagues also take place throughout the year, with the main tournament being the BUCS Individual Championship in Nottingham.
The club also works closely with Drumchapel Table Tennis Club one of the best table tennis clubs in Scotland. Last year Terry Mclernon MBE was brought in as a coach for the club. Many students enjoyed the club's structured training sessions. Your
support not only helps the club grow but members develop. Your support helps us to cover hiring costs of the facility at Drumchapel Sports Centre and continue working with Terry and coaches at Drumchapel Table Tennis Club.
Table Tennis is a sport for everyone and we want to continue growing it and building a welcoming community for all students. Your support helps members rekindle their love of the sport, develop their game or just have a knock and talk.

Tennis Club

Glasgow University Tennis Club (GUT) is one of the largest and most dynamic sports clubs at the University of Glasgow, with three men’s teams, two women’s teams, and a thriving development squad. Whether you’re looking to compete at a high level or just enjoy a friendly game, GUT offers tennis for all abilities, backed by a strong community and extensive support. We have just added an additional three BUCS team which has been a big step forward for the club and we hope this will provide more opportunity for our players to compete across Scotland.
Our Performance Programme provides athletes with world-class coaching, comprehensive Strength & Conditioning, psychological workshops, and nutritional advice - ensuring players can balance academic success with athletic excellence. We compete in BUCS leagues, with our 1st teams playing in the top tiers, and our development squad provides opportunities for players to progress through friendly matches and tournaments.
Off the court, GUT is known for its vibrant social scene. With biweekly socials, training events, and a welcoming atmosphere, it's the perfect place to meet new people, unwind, and have fun. We’re committed to making tennis accessible and exciting for everyone, and your support helps us maintain this inclusive environment - providing funding for equipment, travel, and performance-enhancing services.

Trampoline Club
Glasgow University Trampoline Club (GUTC) is a friendly and welcoming club with a huge history of success in competition, as well as a strong social aspect. We cater to all abilities, whether you have never stepped on a trampoline or if you are an Olympic hopeful. We train at one of the UK’s top trampoline facilities, just 10 minutes from campus, with access to 8 trampolines, a double-mini trampoline, and a foam pit - making us one of the most well-equipped trampoline clubs in Scotland.
We regularly compete in individual, synchronized, and double-mini trampoline across the UK. The levels range from beginner (novice) to elite. We are part of the Scottish Student Trampoline League where we attend league competitions and training weekends throughout the year. Our biggest event is the Scottish Student Trampoline Open (SSTO) in Edinburgh, a major competition drawing participants from across the UK and beyond. Our members also travel to larger competitions in Ireland and England. Notably, BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) which puts our team against the best student athletes the UK has to offer.
In the past year, we are incredibly proud to have been awarded GUSA Club of the Year and Scottish Student Sport Club of the Year. We were recognised for our inclusive environment and opportunities for our club members to upskill in coaching and judging courses.
While many of our members compete, there’s no pressure to do so - training is fun and welcoming for everyone. Beyond the trampolines, we have a vibrant social scene with themed nights, ceilidhs, dinners, and much more, making GUTC a supportive and engaging community.
Your support helps keep our training affordable and accessible, while also funding competition entry fees, travel, equipment, judging and coaching courses.

Triathlon

At the triathlon club, we pride ourselves on being a friendly and inclusive place for endurance sport, no matter your background or experience.
This year we’ve had the largest membership ever, with around 100 members, and we would like to maintain that number going into next year. We are seeing an increasing number of people signing up for races, including BUCS. This shows people are eager to
compete, and additional funding would be very helpful to cover some of the costs associated with competition.
We compete at all the BUCS triathlon events as well as some other main events such as St Andrews Spring Triathlon and East Fortune Duathlon, which is the British Duathlon Championships and the European Duathlon Championships qualifiers.
We have had an exponential growth in the number of members competing in BUCS, with up to 35 members taking part in the BUCS Sprint Triathlon in 2024, our biggest participation to date. This is very impressive, bearing in mind that a few years before,
only two club members took part in the event.
More athletes are competing now in long-distance racing, with a group of seven club members and alumni taking part in the Vitoria-Gasteiz Ironman event this July. This is the culmination of a wider trend of club members competing in other Ironman and half Ironman events across Europe in the last couple of years. In 2023, we were privileged enough to have two of our members compete in the Xterra World Championships, with Mia Padmanabhan finishing first in her category and becoming a world champion!
We would like to keep providing our members with the opportunity to get involved in the sport and sign up for races to test themselves and put all their training into practice. For this, we need funding since triathlon can be an expensive sport, and we want to try and make it as accessible as possible to all our members.
These donations will help subsidise race entries for members, including BUCS, as well as funding new training opportunities and equipment for members to improve and take part in the sport.
Last year, we did multiple fundraising events for charity, particularly for Movember. We did a 24-hour bike ride, a run from Edinburgh to Glasgow, as well as a bake sale. In January, we swam 160 km and raised some funds for the charity Sporting in Mind. For our final event of the year, Sports Day, we raised funds for the Free Wheel North charity in Glasgow.
Every year, we also have our main fundraising event, which is the GU Aquathlon, organised by our race convener with the help of club members and others as volunteers.
Now that you know what we do, please consider donating so we can keep providing our members with the best this sport has to offer!

Ultimate Frisbee (Farflung)

Farflung is an ever-growing, diverse club. Most people have never heard of Ultimate before they begin university, which means the club has an exciting mix of abilities, backgrounds, and experience.
We currently have 2 women’s teams, between 1 to 2 open teams, and 2 to 3 mixed teams, all competing at regional and national levels. However, due to the club’s varying numbers every year, this is always open to change!
We currently send teams to compete in the BUCS league, as well as regionals, with the intent to qualify for nationals.
In the past two years, we have had many successes! In 2024, we sent our women’s team to Division 1 Nationals, and an open and mixed team to Division 2 Nationals. Further, in 2025, our women’s and men’s teams ranked within the top 3 BUCS teams, meaning both teams qualified for Division 1 Outdoor Nationals.
In recent years, we have been very successful in fundraising, with a strong focus on giving back to the community and charities of our choosing. In December 2023, Farflung hosted the ‘New Year’s Fling’ ceilidh, where we managed to raise £932. This was all donated to Ultimate Peace, a charity aimed at uniting youth separated by cultural divides through the use
of sport and community.
Furthermore, we are constantly trying to grow the Ultimate community, with aims to help teach Ultimate to schools in our local community throughout the 2024/25 year!
It will be no surprise to any of our alumni that Farflung is a smaller club in comparison to others at Glasgow Uni. This is why we need all the help we can get! Donations to the club would greatly improve our resources. They will go towards kit items such as more discs, bibs, cones, etc. In the longer run, they will help us to book better facilities, host more events (for alumni too!), and overall expand the reach of this strange sport we play.
Farflung will always remain a tight community, with our alumni members being a key aspect of our club. It is these people who keep this sport alive. Alumni are always welcome (and encouraged) to keep in contact with not only the club but also our current members! So please don’t be shy, as the door is always open.

Women's Basketball Club

Glasgow University Women's Basketball Club (GUWBC) is an inclusive, welcoming club that caters to all abilities, whether you're new to the game or a seasoned player. With a First, Second, and Recreational team, there’s a place for everyone to enjoy the sport, improve fitness, and make lifelong friends.
The First Team competes at the highest level in BUCS 1A and the Scottish National League, finishing 3rd in both last season. With expert coaching, strength and conditioning, and regular competitive opportunities, they aim to defend their Glasgow Taxis Cup title for a third year running. The Second Team also enjoys competitive success, finishing 2nd in BUCS 3A last season, with a focus on developing skills and teamwork.
GUWBC's Recreational Team provides a fun and relaxed space for those with little or no basketball experience, with training led by experienced First Team players. We also offer exciting international opportunities, including the Les Parisiennes tournament in Paris!
Beyond basketball, we are committed to community outreach. GUWBC partners with the Rising Stars Charity and DUNK to support underprivileged youth through basketball programs. Our fundraising efforts and volunteer opportunities ensure that our impact extends beyond the court.
With weekly socials, regular fundraisers, and a focus on mental health and well-being, GUWBC is more than just a basketball club. Your support will help us continue to grow, compete, and give back to the community.

Women's Football Club

Glasgow University Women’s Football Club (GUWFC) is a fun and inclusive club for all abilities, offering opportunities to play, compete, and make lifelong friends!
We have four competitive teams: the First Team competes in the BUCS 1A league and National Trophy Cup, the Second Team competes in the BUCS 2A league and Conference Cup, and the Third and Fourth Teams compete in the BUCS 3A league and Conference Cup. Our teams are always looking to progress, and we encourage movement between teams to suit individual development.
For those looking for a more relaxed experience, our Development Team offers casual training and the chance to play against other recreational teams.
We also love our socials! From fun whole-club events like subcrawls and wacky races to regular smaller activities like quizzes, karaoke, and potlucks - there’s always something happening! And of course, our annual tour to a secret destination is always a major highlight!
Over the next year we are fundraising for a VEO camera to improve tactical knowledge of teams and allow them to engage with material from matches they've played in the previous weeks/ new formations etc. that have been explained at training.
In 2025 GUWFC raised just over £1500 which was donated to HistioUK in Memory of our beloved GUWFC member and friend Tara Duggan. We will continue to dedicate the proceeds of this annual event to this great charity each year.
Please support us and become part of a team where inclusivity, fun, and football are at the heart of everything we do!

Women's Hockey Club

Glasgow University Women’s Hockey Club (GUWHC) is one of the largest women's hockey clubs in the country, boasting seven outdoor teams, a large Development squad, and two indoor teams. The club is committed to fostering a high standard of hockey for players of all abilities while maintaining an environment that is enjoyable, inclusive, and socially engaging for all members.
GUWHC fields six competitive teams across both Wednesday and Saturday leagues, reflecting the club's dedication to excellence and inclusivity. The 1st XI competes at the highest level of Scottish hockey, participating in the Scottish Hockey Premiership on weekends and the BUCS Premier (North) league on Wednesdays. The 2nd XI plays in the Scottish Hockey Championship 1 and BUCS Scottish Tier 1. Teams 3 through 6 actively compete in the local West District leagues on weekends, as well as BUCS Scottish Tiers 3, 4, and 5, respectively. In addition, the 7th XI, although not currently involved in league competitions, is a priority for future league entry. Complementing the competitive teams, the Development squad provides opportunities for emerging players to gain experience through friendly matches against other universities and clubs in the West of Scotland.
The club is consistently seeking essential equipment to support its diverse membership. Items such as hockey sticks for the Development squad and shared goalkeeper kits for teams are crucial to ensuring all members can fully participate and thrive. Donations directly benefit both the club and individual players, enhancing their ability to perform at their best.
Donations also enable more students to engage with the sport, enriching their university experience through team camaraderie, physical activity, and personal growth. I am sure you can agree that hockey at GUWHC is more than just a sport—it is a key component of a well-rounded university life.
The GUWHC is deeply committed to helping charity through fundraising efforts. Last year, the club raised over £2,000 for the PEEK charity through various events, including ceilidhs, fun runs, and bake sales. This year, the club has chosen to support Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, with fundraising initiatives such as bake sales and pub quizzes already underway and additional events planned for the coming semester. Furthermore, GUWHC actively promotes inclusivity, with members purchasing rainbow laces in support of the Rainbow Laces campaign for the LGBTQ+ community.
We would massively appreciate any support to help our club continue to develop and thrive. We are all so proud to be members of the GUWHC, with university hockey being a huge part of every current student and alumni’s university career. Thank you very much for reading, cannot wait to see you all at the next alumni dinner!
Yours in hockey, CTVS

Women's Rugby Club

Glasgow University Women’s Rugby Club (GUWRFC) provides a fantastic space for players of all abilities to play rugby. We currently have two teams; our first team competes in Scottish BUCS 1A league, which we have won in both the 22/23 and the 23/24 seasons! Our second team, which was started in the 23/24 season, plays in Scottish West Division III, and provides an excellent space for players new to the game of rugby. We are hoping for our second team to join a BUCS league in the coming seasons, allowing the team to experience even more growth and competition. We also play in a Varsity match against Strathclyde Women’s Rugby at the end of each season, which is a great match to showcase women’s rugby to a crowd of over a thousand people!
With our fundraising efforts, we are hoping to hire a fourth coach to support our team as we have now grown to have over 70 members! We also hope to use this to help both our teams promote into new leagues to continue our development as both individual players and as a whole club. Our 1XV have won our current league for the past two years, and in the 23/24 season were undefeated. Going into the second half of the 24/25 season we are currently undefeated, and are hoping to once again win the league! Promoting into the next league would mean travelling to England for games, and higher travel costs for the team, which we hope to fundraise to help mitigate these costs.
Some of our fundraising events from last year were our auction of rugby kit and merch, our joint ceilidh with GUWFC for charity, and our club walking/running challenge for Movember. This year we are looking forward to another ceilidh with women’s football, as well as an auction of rugby kit and clothes swap to promote sustainability within the club!
Any support of the club is greatly appreciated by all members, as it allows us the opportunity to provide the best experience possible for everyone while promoting the growth of players both on and off the pitch!

Volleyball

Founded in 1965, Glasgow University Volleyball Club (GUVC), is a major club within the university, with a thriving community of 258 members. We are proud to be a highly diverse club, welcoming students of all levels of study and backgrounds - particularly international students from around the globe.
GUVC currently boasts four competitive teams (two Men’s and two Women’s), two development squads, and a large recreational population, offering opportunities for athletes of all abilities to play, grow and enjoy the sport.
In recent years, we’ve focused on expanding the club's structure—most notably with the launch of both Men’s and Women’s Development squads this year. These teams have become some of the fastest-growing sectors of the club, reflecting our commitment to creating a clear progression pathway for all players to reach their potential.
With 22 hours of training each week, regular BUCS fixtures that bring the support of the entire club in the stands, and numerous student-led charity tournaments, we offer more than just athletic development. Our members find a true sense of community—both on and off the court.
Recent Highlights
- Both Women’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams had outstanding seasons, competing at the top of their BUCS leagues.
- Women’s 2 won the BUCS Conference Cup.
- Women’s 1 were undefeated and earned promotion to the BUCS Premier League, also winning Team of the Year.
- The club achieved 45 match wins across all teams this year!
Beyond competition, GUVC is also a highly social club. Our calendar includes standout events such as our Christmas Dinner, Super Sunday tournament day, VolleyBall (our end-of-year celebration and awards night), as well as our bi-weekly socials. Our most coveted highlights in the Deep Dish Tour - a five-day beach volleyball retreat in Portugal that brings the whole club together.
In the coming year, we’re excited to keep growing. Our key goal is to increase competitive and social playing opportunities across all levels, especially for our development and recreational teams. By doing so, we can offer a more well-rounded volleyball experience for all members - regardless of their level - while keeping players engaged, active, and progressing.
Our current target is £500, which will directly support:
- Extended training and match opportunities across all levels of the club
- Improved access to coaching and equipment, ensuring members access resources they need to succeed
- The creation of more internal tournaments and alumni events, such as themed competitions and outdoor tournaments
- Building toward bringing a memorable GUVC Alumni Weekend, welcoming back past members and celebrating the legacy of the club
While past fundraising has been limited, we’re eager to launch fresh initiatives that build stronger connections within our community and create a lasting impact for current and future members.
Every donation—big or small—helps us provide a safer, more competitive, and more enjoyable volleyball experience for our students! Your support allows us to keep volleyball accessible to all, encourage player skill training, and celebrate the spirit of our club through inclusive events and improved support.

Weightlifting

Glasgow University Weightlifting Club (GUWC)
We currently have male and female competitors in both powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting.
We have members entering competitions throughout the year, the biggest being BUCS for both sports and the Scottish University Championships (which has the highest number of entries) for both sports. We’ve also sent members to Scottish & British Juniors (powerlifting), Scottish Classics (powerlifting), British Age Groups (weightlifting), Small Nations (powerlifting), and the University World Championships (also powerlifting).
Most recently, we are proud of the growth of our club and the exponential increase in attendance at both our coached and open training sessions. This is majorly credited to the tireless work of our coaches and captains.
As a club, we are currently looking to offer competition-grade training for all our members by exploring other sport-specific gyms in the area. On top of this, we hope to be able to financially support our newer members, as both weightlifting and powerlifting can be expensive sports—both in terms of equipment and competition entry.
Grassroots of both powerlifting and weightlifting often begin with a single taster session or positive experience. As a club, we hope to be able to foster that supportive environment in order to bring new athletes into the sport with impactful coaching. Financial donations help to break those initial barriers of equipment or competition entry for members just starting out in the respective sports.
We are planning to make a montage-style video when the new semester starts that can be used to showcase the club. Until then, I can attach some photos.
Our most recent fundraiser was for The Oddballs Foundation, who do incredible work raising awareness of testicular cancer by delivering informative talks in schools, sports clubs, and businesses. Our fundraising challenge was lifting 250,000KGs throughout the day. This brought the club together in such a team-style way and was a great representation of GUWC as a club.
Next year, we hope to continue this effort of fundraising for our chosen charity as a club, as well as doing some fundraising for the club so that we can continue to support our members—from beginners right up to our international athletes.

Yoga

Glasgow University Yoga Club (GUYC) is an inclusive club for all, from complete beginners to experienced yogis, and irrespective of sporting background. We are dedicated to being as accessible as possible, with all classes being open to all levels - our teachers give options to work around every individual’s abilities, confidence and any injuries, and we have invested in props such as blocks and straps to allow for yoga poses to be more accessible to all members.
Yoga has numerous benefits, for both mental and physical health, which are of particular importance in a university setting - reducing stress and anxiety, improving attention, focus, and sleep, and building strength, balance and flexibility. We believe yoga can be practiced as a form of exercise on its own, or in combination with other sports to improve conditioning and performance.
We offer six weekly classes at varying times, and we have worked with our club teachers to develop individual yoga styles for each class from soothing yin classes to fiery vinyasa flows, to ensure all club members can find a class that suits them, both in
terms of preferred yoga styles and their schedule. We have also collaborated with other clubs and the ARC to provide additional classes, as well as running a class for Men’s Mental Health Day, enabling the wider university community to discover the benefits of yoga.
We also support the community through our own fundraising efforts throughout the year, running events and fundraisers that have supported Movember, Refuweegee, Spirit of Christmas, and Women's Aid.
Your support allows us to provide a range of weekly classes, collaborations with other GUSA clubs and university societies, additional free or heavily subsidised workshops, and increased accessibility of retreats. This greatly enhances our member's experience and provides them with the opportunity to learn and grow.
