New Voices on Adam Smith
In June 2024, the University of Glasgow welcomed fifteen early career scholars from around the world to workshop their research on Adam Smith, supported by the John Templeton Foundation.
The event, organized by Adam Smith 300 Research Associates, Dr Leo Steeds and Dr Ana Londe Silva, was held over two days and included participants from China, Japan, and South America, as well as those based within the UK and Europe.
The early career scholars benefited from the generous feedback of three senior Smith experts, Professor Craig Smith (University of Glasgow), Professor Jimena Hurtado (Universidad de los Andes, Colombia), and Dr Shinji Nohara (University of Tokyo).
The workshop showcased the continuing vibrancy of Smith scholarship and the diversity of approaches taken by a new generation of Smith scholars.
The plan is for papers presented to be developed, based on the discussions had during the workshop, and for these to become chapters of a forthcoming book of New Voices on Adam Smith, planned for publication in 2026, to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the publication of Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations.
