The University of Glasgow’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, welcomed guests to the culmination of the University's Tercentenary Week activities to commemorate the 300th birthday of Adam Smith.
Speaking at the Adam Smith Gala Dinner event on 10 June, Professor Sir Anton discussed Smith’s life and his experience at the University as both a student and professor.
As a civic University, we are committed to continuing to make a positive impact and build on the work of people like Adam Smith."
Sir Anton showcased some of the incredible work at the University that is inspired by Smith, highlighting the profound impact the famous Scot continues to have. Examples include
- the creation of the Beniba Centre for Slavery Studies
- internationalising and decolonising the University’s curriculum
- the new Centre for Public Policy
- and the development of the new Postgraduate Hub and the Adam Smith Business School.
We will move forward as an institution with this in mind, building on the progress seen in the 300 years since Smith shaped our University."
