Microscope wins international recognition
A design for a digital robotic microscope that can be manufactured in sub-Saharan Africa has been recognised by the renowned MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Solve initiative.
The OpenFlexure Microscope, designed at UofG, can be printed in plastic on a standard 3D printer. It is capable of controlled motorised movements smaller than a red blood cell and can create enormous high-resolution digital images. The microscope is currently undergoing evaluation for malaria and cancer diagnoses.
