We would be delighted to welcome you to the Chinese New Year Concert 2024, presented by the Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow. This fantastic evening of traditional Chinese and Scottish performances will take place in the Cloisters and University Chapel on Friday the 9th February 2024 between 5:00pm and 6:30pm.

The event is designed to celebrate the Spring Festival, which this year marks the beginning of the new year of the Wood Dragon in the Chinese lunisolar calendar. Performances include Sichuan Face Changing, Peking Opera Singing, Ribbon Sleeve Dancing, Chinese Guzheng, and more.

Full programme of events:

  • 5:00pm–5:15pm: Lion Dance, University Cloisters.
  • 5:15pm–5:25pm: Procession to the University Chapel led by a Scottish Bagpiper.
  • 5:25pm–5:30pm: Guests are invited to be seated in the University Chapel.
  • 5:30pm-5:35pm: Welcome & Greetings.
  • 5:35pm-6:30pm: Performances of live music, opera, dancing and singing.

This year the concert event will take place in the the University Cloisters (Main Building, Gilmorehill Campus, University of Glasgow, West Quadrangle, Glasgow, G12 8QQ) and the University Chapel (Main Building, Gilmorehill Campus, University of Glasgow, West Quadrangle, Glasgow, G12 8QQ). Entry to the venue can be made either at the Main Gate entrance or the Flagpole entrance.
