The understanding of Chinese painting requires knowledge of complex cultural and historical context as well as awareness of the various applications of materials and techniques. This talk will introduce the fundamentals of Chinese painting, including terminology and categorization, as well as the basics of appreciation. In addition to highlighting important works of the past, the speaker will also introduce modern examples of her own creation to demonstrate these principles.
Shanshan Jiang is an award-winning artist, named among the Top 10 Young Artists by the Tianjin Fine Arts Association in 2015. She has studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Glasgow School of Art. Her work is also influenced by her upbringing in a traditional artistic family. She applies her unique understanding of Chinese painting to her contemporary works.
