Following the UN International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) in October, it’s time to reflect on our role in advancing the UN's mission of global safety by reducing the impact of disasters and bolstering Scotland's resilience.

The National Centre for Resilience, based in the Schoolof Social and Environmental Sustainability, have introduced three new Grant Funding Calls that align with the UN's key theme for this year: "Fighting inequality for a resilient future through collaboration, inclusion, empowerment, and partnerships." These calls offer financial support to groups working on projects that enhance our ability to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the effects of natural hazards across Scotland's communities.

  • The Knowledge Mobilisation Fund is tailored to help UK academics engage with Scottish communities, transform scientific data into practical solutions, and provide customised tools to empower communities in building resilience.
  • The Community Council Fund offers financial support to help Community Councils develop and execute their local resilience plans.
  • The Third Sector, Community, and Practice Project Fund extends financial support to community groups, practitioners, and the third sector for collaborative projects promoting the use of local community-based approaches to enhance resilience.

    (Application Deadlines: 31st January 2024)

Building resilience needs collective action, and the Centre for National Resilience moves into its ninth year, it remains dedicated to translating research into practical solutions. The Centre’s ongoing commitment to promoting collaboration, evidence-based research, and community empowerment is at the heart of our mission.
