HORIZON EUROPE NETWORK SEED FUND
Applications are now closed.
University of Glasgow staff can apply for seed funding to develop Horizon Europe funding applications that involve colleagues based at institutions including, but not limited to, members of CIVIS and the Guild.
This initiative is part of a drive to increase research engagement with our European network partners and ultimately to involve network partners in Horizon Europe projects along with Glasgow researchers. We hope that this will be part of a wider portfolio of opportunities coming from our membership of these networks, in light of the UK’s association to Horizon Europe.
The seed funding will support two types of activity. It aims to:
- Facilitate collaboration with established consortia, with the objective of submitting Horizon Europe grant applications. This is for those members of our academic community who are in a position to play a significant role in a European bid. This funding should lead to a collaborative application and at least one member of the consortia should be a network partner from either CIVIS or the Guild.
- Support academics to develop new research collaborations across Glasgow's European network partners.
Eligibility
Funding is designed to be used to build research networks and develop joint research proposals with network partners in Europe, e.g. preparatory meetings to develop EU grant applications.
The seed funding is intended to support the initial phase of the establishment of collaborative partnerships with researchers and academics from CIVIS and Guild member institutions and others, so activities are usually short term (i.e. typically around 3 days).
It should not be used as an alternative source of funding for research activity.
Proposals are invited from academic staff from all disciplines. Lead applicants must be employed on at least a 0.5 FTE contract. If contract is fixed term the end date must be beyond the funding period of this scheme. PhD students, masters by research students, post-docs, and research assistants/associates are not eligible to apply directly.
Funding
Applicants can request up to £5,000.
Applications should show in detail how their proposed budget will be allocated. Activities that are eligible for funding include:
- Travel costs: economy class airfares; rail travel or other public transport;
- Accommodation and subsistence;
- Costs for hosting a seminar/conference or workshop;
- Travel expenses of collaborators (including consultants).
This seed funding is in-year funding so all activity set out in your application must be planned and completed by the end of July 2024. All applicants are responsible for arranging their own travel.
All successful funding recipients will be expected to complete a final report by 1 January 2025 with an update to this report submitted before 31 July 2025. This is part of the financial and reporting obligations incumbent on successful recipients.
