University of Louvain, Belgium

The University of Louvain (UCL) or Université Catholique de Louvain is Belgium’s largest French-speaking university, with its roots dating back to 1425. The University has approximately 30,000 students and is consistently ranked in the top 100 universities of the world.

Louvain-la-Neuve (New Leuven) is a planned city, located just south-east of Brussels, in Belgium. The city was built to house the UCL, following the language crisis in the 1960s, during which the Catholic University of Leuven split into the UCL and the Katholieke Universteit Leuven. The city is an example of New Pedestrianism, a pedestrian-friendly and ecology-oriented variation of New Urbanism.
