Masaryk University (Czech: Masarykova univerzita) is the second largest university in the Czech Republic. It is one of the most prestigious and respected institutions of higher education in Central Europe with more than 35,000 students.

The University is located in Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic by population and area. Brno is the administrative center of the South Moravian Region and has a large student population. The city is a unique cultural centre of the whole region. There are permanent theatre ensembles, opera, ballet and musical stages, a philharmonic orchestra, and you can also visit a number of museums, galleries and libraries, a recently modernized observatory and planetarium, a zoo and a botanical garden. More than 20 festivals of culture and theatre take place in the city each year.
