University of Freiburg, Germany

The University of Freiburg dates back to 1457. It is one of 11 'universities of excellence' and stands among Europe’s top research and teaching institutions. The university is affiliated with 19 Nobel laureates and 15 Leibniz prize winners.

Freiburg is located in the very south-west of Germany. It has a population of 220,000 and is located on the edge of the Black Forest. Freiburg is one of Germany’s most progressive cities, famous for a high standard of living and advanced environmental practices. It is the German capital of renewable energies and a driving research centre, particularly for solar energy. Freiburg has an excellent public transport system and contains a fully sustainable, low energy neighbourhood. The town has a large student population and is defined by a relaxed but vibrant atmosphere unusual for its size.
