The University of Tokyo was established in 1877 as the first national university in Japan. The University of Tokyo is Japan’s top university and is a world-class center for research.
Tokyo is both the capital and, with 13.5 million inhabitants, the largest city of Japan. Tokyo is famous for its sci-fi cityscape but also features many parks, old quarters, temples and traditional kabuki theatres. It is a fashion, culinary and pop-culture capital and has been ranked as the third best city in the world to be a student.
