The University of Wroclaw has a rich history of more than three centuries. Over the centuries, the university evolved from a modest school run by Jesuits into one of the biggest academic institutions in Poland. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the University of Wroclaw produced 9 Nobel Prize winners. Today the University of Wroclaw is the largest university in the region and teaches over 26,000 students and around 1300 doctoral students at 10 Faculties. The university’s first and foremost focus is scientific research.
Wroclaw is the historical capital of regions of Silesia and Lower Silesia in Poland. Named the European Capital of Culture 2016, it is a culturally vibrant, cosmopolitan city, with over 100 thousand students, who contribute to the city’s art and music scene. The city boasts 12 islands and 130 bridges and having absorbed Bohemian, Austrian and Prussian influences, it has a unique architectural and cultural make-up, symbolised by its magnificent market square.
