Glasgow’s Confucius Institute turns 10

Glasgow’s Confucius Institute is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. During the past decade, the Institute has gone from strength to strength, supporting a range of language programmes, seminars, events, and research projects. It has furthered mutual understanding not just between Glasgow and Nankai University, our partner in China, and our respective students and academics, but also between China and Scotland.

After ten successful years, we signed a new agreement with Nankai University on Wednesday 13 January 2021 at a virtual ceremony hosted by Rachel Sandison, our Vice Principal External Relations. Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, our Principal and Vice-Chancellor, and Professor CAO Xuetao, President of Nankai University, signed the agreement on behalf of both universities.

The agreement is both a reaffirmation of the joint commitment to cultural activities and teaching programmes, and a blueprint for further collaboration and knowledge exchange. It marks a new stage in the development of the Confucius Institute and one that heralds continued and mutually beneficial collaboration for many years to come.

“We remain ambitious about the strategic relationship between our two universities and what more this can achieve”, said Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli. “Nankai remains a key partner for Glasgow and we look forward to continued cooperation over the Confucius Institute, the Joint Graduate School, and our broader range of collaborative projects.”
