Celebrating world and UK ranking success
We're delighted to share the news that we have risen in the rankings in two prestigious university league tables, and we have been named the Higher Education Institution of the Year at the Herald Higher Education Awards.
The University improved four places in the QS World University Rankings, rising to 73rd globally, and three places in the Complete University Guide, rising to 16th in the UK.

We also rank top in the UK in five subject areas in the Complete University Guide: Dentistry, Food Science, Social Policy, Sports Science and Veterinary Medicine.
Furthermore, 17 individual subject areas are ranked in the top five in the UK, and 31 within the top 10.
Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, our Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said: “This is fantastic news for the University and further evidence of the strength of our reputation within the sector, which has seen us rise in national and world league tables and named as the current Times Higher (THE) Education University of the Year.
“While the University is about far more than league tables, it is important that we take the opportunity to recognise and reflect on results such as this, which are testament to the hard work and dedication of so many colleagues.
“These successes do not happen on their own, and I would like to thank our community, particularly over such a challenging year, who ensure the University continues to deliver outstanding research and teaching, and a world-leading student experience.”
We have also been named the Higher Education Institution of the Year at the prestigious Herald Higher Education Awards.
The University was recognised for the critical support role we played during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for work at the “trailblazing” Lighthouse Lab and efforts to boost employment across the city at such a difficult time.
As well as being honoured with the leading institution title, the Lighthouse Lab also won the award for Outstanding Contribution To The Local Community and UofG triumphed in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion category.
