JUNE 2023
The importance of connectivity and collective action is at the heart of this edition of our Connect newsletter, as we reflect on the impact of recent collaborations with our partners and our role within our international networks.
From April 2023, the University of Glasgow succeeded the University of Tübingen as the Chair of the CIVIS Steering Committee, and I was delighted to consider the significance of this development in a dedicated article. The issue also explores our new joint PhD programme with the University of Sydney, as well as the African Research Universities Alliance Conference hosted at the University, which investigated how we can jointly address non-communicable diseases in Africa with partners.
I would also like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to our upcoming World Changing Glasgow Conversation, #CompassionIntoAction: Embracing Collective Action to Support Refugees Seeking Sanctuary. The event will take place on Tuesday 20 June 2023 at 18:00 (BST). Building on the official theme of Refugee Week 2023, Compassion, and delivered as part of our weeklong programme of activities, this virtual event will explore how we can work together to ensure the best possible support to those who are seeking sanctuary. As the University’s Sanctuary Champion, I hope you will be able to join us for what I know will be an inspiring conversation.
Best wishes,
Rachel Sandison
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement)
