Welcoming the University of California Education Abroad Program to Glasgow
A celebration of partnership and learning
We were thrilled to host colleagues from the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) at our Glasgow campus this summer. Fourteen delegates from across the University of California (UC) campuses joined us for two days dedicated to sharing best practices and exploring the unique experiences offered through our summer programmes.
This visit highlighted the long-standing collaboration between UCEAP and Glasgow, including our specialised Summer Physics Programme, which has welcomed UC students since 2014. The programme offers an innovative, hands-on academic experience alongside a rich cultural immersion, giving students the chance to explore Glasgow while advancing their studies.
Experiencing the Glasgow summer physics programme first-hand
During their visit, UCEAP delegates had the opportunity to:
- Meet current summer students and hear about their experiences
- Engage with the staff who deliver the programme
- Observe classes and activities to see what makes the partnership so successful
- Have a guided tour around labs in the Advanced Research Centre, experience Museums in the Metaverse, see Lord Kelvin-related items in the Hunterian collection and try out traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing.
Our guests were able to see the programme in action, gaining insight into the unique blend of academic rigour and cultural exchange that defines the Glasgow Summer Physics Programme.
Beyond physics: a range of summer research opportunities
While the Summer Physics Programme is a highlight, Glasgow also offers UC students a variety of research-based summer programmes in other disciplines such as chemistry, life sciences and history.
Each programme is designed to combine academic depth with international perspectives, offering UC students a memorable and transformative experience.
In addition to specialised summer programmes, Glasgow also welcomes students through our standard Study Abroad programme, further expanding opportunities for UC students to engage with our campus and community.
Strengthening global partnerships
At UofG, we place a high value on international collaborations. Partnerships like UCEAP allow us to:
- Foster cultural exchange
- Promote global learning
- Build long-term collaborations between institutions
The UCEAP visit is a reminder of how much can be achieved when universities work together across borders. By sharing knowledge, resources, and experiences, we enrich the academic journey for students and staff alike. We are excited about the future of our collaboration with UCEAP and the broader UC network. By nurturing these connections, we can continue to create enriching experiences that prepare students for global learning and professional success.
Here’s to continued collaboration, vibrant cultural exchange, and growing global connections.
