We are delighted to welcome visitors from all corners of the globe and welcome conversations with international partners in education, industry, commerce and government.

All incoming international visitors are required to use our online form to request a visit. This will help the International Relations team understand your needs and ensures that all requests are given the same level of support to deliver a successful and meaningful visit.

HESPAL meeting for Scottish Universities

In November 2024, the University of Glasgow hosted a meeting for Scottish universities participating in the HESPAL programme, with scholars from Scottish and English universities, including those from the University of Glasgow, sharing their experiences.

The event, organised by the British Council Edinburgh for British Council Palestine, included online participation from BC Palestine and other colleagues from British Council offices in the Middle East. Humza Yousaf MSP attended on behalf of the Scottish Government and hosted a scholars' panel session.

CCNU delegation explores collaboration with the College of Social Sciences

In October, a delegation from Central China Normal University (CCNU) met the Senior Management Group and colleagues from the College of Social Sciences to discuss potential collaboration in Education. As well as meaningful conversations, the group enjoyed some time in the virtual reality suite exploring the museum education app and the Polychain Reaction laboratory for skills development.

Welcome to fellow U21 member, Shanghai Jiao Tong University

A delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University visited the university in early September. The delegation met with colleagues from all four colleges to discussed future collaborations, specifically in Mathematics and Life Sciences. It was great to welcome a fellow Universitas 21 member and discuss network activities with their Senior Leader.

Engaging with the Universitas 21 Secretariat

We were delighted to host the Universitas 21 (U21) secretariat on our campus in early September.

During their visit, Provost Jenny Dixon and Director of Operations Jade Bressington met with Rachel Sandison, U21 Senior Leader, along with our International Relations team and other colleagues involved in U21 activities. The visit included exploring potential venues for the 2025 U21 AGM, which will be held here at the University of Glasgow.

Strengthening our work with the University of Denver

International colleagues from the University of Denver arrived on campus in September to meet with members of our senior management group and their UofG counterparts. This is the first of two visits this year to build on the existing relationship between UofG and Denver.

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from Université Paris Cité to initiate discussions on future collaborations. The programme included a campus tour highlighting our new teaching and student facilities. Additionally, colleagues from the College of Arts and Humanities and the College of Social Sciences met with our visitors to explore opportunities and plan the next steps.

In June, the university was delighted to welcome Professor Ernest Aryeetey, Secretary General, ARUA and his successor Professor John Gyapong. This was a great opportunity to recap what the partnership has achieved to date and how it can continue to grow.

In May, we were delighted to welcome a delegation from Jilin University to discuss possible future collaborations. During the visit, the delegation met with colleagues from the Recruitment and International Office, the College of Science and Engineering and the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences.

Visit from Lower Saxony

In May, we were delighted to welcome a delegation from the Lower Saxony State in Germany, including representatives from Government, Parliament & the Higher Education sector.

Our College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences and Hannover Medical School signed an MoU during the visit. We look forward to further developing research collaborations.

In April, we welcomed the EU Ambassador to the UK, Pedro Serrano, to our campus to discuss Glasgow's successes in securing Horizon Europe funding, our extensive engagement with European partners, and how much we value our large staff community of EU nationals.

Visit by Guild Deans of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities

We were delighted to host a meeting of the Guild Deans of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.

The group of representatives from across the Guild membership met in our Advanced Research Centre over two days to discuss the societal impact of social sciences, arts and humanities research.

MoU extended with Turkish Ministry of National Education

In March 2024, we welcomed Acting Consul General, Demet Kayaoğlu and Education Attache, Atakan Dogan to our campus to renew a Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement provides incredible opportunities for Turkish students to come to the University of Glasgow to study at postgraduate level. As the oldest sponsorship scheme in Turkey, the sponsor covers the full cost of tuition, along with providing a monthly stipend. Students can receive sponsorship to study at both PGT and PhD level.

This visit provided the opportunity to discuss collaboration and opportunities in many disciplinary areas including Life Sciences and Engineering. The delegation met with our Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Assistant Vice-Principle International and current recipients of the sponsorship studying at University of Glasgow.

CIVIS 'Student Led Project' event

In March 2024, we hosted a week-long seminar and workshop series, welcoming faculty and students from European CIVIS partner universities. The objective was for staff and students to produce recommendations with a view of creating a pan-European framework for student led projects.

The event was one of the few projects selected for the Scottish Education Exchange Programme, created as a new instrument for international collaboration. To end the week, the City of Glasgow hosted a civic reception at the City Chambers, attended by the Scottish Minister for Higher and Further Education, Graeme Dey.

In March 2024, we welcomed colleagues from Kyushu University to our campus. The visit presented opportunities to discuss collaboration across multiple disciplinary areas including education, public health and student exchanges, as well as exploring COIL activities.

Longstanding relationship with McGill
 

In February 2024, we hosted Professor Anya Geitmann, McGill University’s Vice-President, Global Engagement, on our campus in Glasgow.

The relationship between Glasgow and McGill is a longstanding one and it was a welcome opportunity for senior University of Glasgow staff to engage with Prof Geitmann and discuss the future of our valued partnership.

 

Visit criteria

Our International Relations team are ready to facilitate and coordinate international partnership visits and events. We welcome and will support visits that

  • Support the delivery of our Global Glasgow 2025 strategy and the objectives within it.
  • Focus on fostering institutional partnerships, especially those seeking to establish or enhance collaborations such as student international experience, joint research or joint delivery of teaching.
  • Involve high-ranking representatives, including but not limited to, senior university leadership, ministries, educational providers, industry or government officials.

These visits are usually university-wide or specifically seek meetings with senior leadership or Deans of Global Engagement.

We will do our best to accommodate all visit requests; however, there are instances when we may not be able to fulfill every requirement.

Please note that certain staff members may have prior commitments, affecting their availability. Additionally, visits cannot be arranged during University of Glasgow holidays.
