Transport and parking options
The University of Glasgow is based in the West End of the city. It is well connected with buses and the subway.
Air
- 7 miles west of the University
- First Bus service (77) connects the West End of Glasgow and the airport. The Glasgow Airport Express bus service connects the city centre and the airport.
- First Bus Greater Glasgow
- Taxi fare from the airport to the West End costs approximately £21. From the city centre to the West End costs approximately £8.
- Direct flight connections to all major European hubs, plus North America and the Middle East
- 33 miles south west of the University
- Dedicated rail station
- Airport bus service to city centre takes around 45 minutes
Edinburgh International Airport
- 42 miles east of the University
- Bus Service (Citylink Air) direct to Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow
Train
- Intercity links to all major cities. Frequent services to Edinburgh (50 minutes) and London (5 hours).
- There are two city-centre terminals, Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central (served by Buchanan St and St Enoch subway stations respectively). Timetables at www.travelinescotland.com
- You can use Traveline Scotland to plan your trip from your location.
- The nearest subway station is Hillhead (10 minutes walk) and the nearest rail station is Partick (20 minutes walk).
Bus from the city centre
- The University also has good bus links from the city centre, the 4 drops off regularly on University Avenue and the 6 on nearby Great Western Road.
- There are bus stops for the 2, 3 and 77 routes directly next to the University’s South Gate on Argyle Street.
Coach
- Buchanan Bus Station is the main terminus for long distance coaches and is close to Buchanan Street subway station. Timetables at www.travelinescotland.com
Car
- Motorway links provide access to major UK cities. Visit Google Maps for maps and directions. University postcode for Satnavs - G12 8QQ
- M8 exits for the University are J18 if travelling from the south, Edinburgh and the north and J19 if coming from Glasgow Airport and the west.
Car Parking
- We have a set amount of visitor bays available so you must book to secure a space, and this will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. Parking is only enforced Monday – Friday so no bookings are required for the weekends.
- All designated visitor bays are located at the Main Building and due to the closure of our main gate at the moment, access to campus can be made through Pearce Lodge.

- You may be subject to a parking charge if you are not parked on the visitor bays, please ensure you do so.
Our visitor online booking system is now available, and all bookings are to be done using the external link below and registering your details;

- Once registered you must apply for a Visitor Permit and once approved (an automated email will be sent to you to confirm) will be able to log on and book a parking space. The permit is free of charge and valid for 12months, you will be only be charged when you book a specific date, a credit/debit card will be asked for to confirm the booking.

£3 – Half Day (AM / PM) - We would recommend blue badge holders contact us prior to their tour with details of their vehicle so we can try to reserve a space prior to your arrival.
During the week parking on campus can be limited there are various pay & display parking spaces around the local Byres Road and Kelvin Way areas but spaces are limited. You may want to consider using the city's Subway Park & Ride scheme, this service costs around £5. There is also parking at Kelvinbridge subway station which is only 5 minutes walk away from campus.
