Welcome to the first edition of the QuantIC newsletter for 2016! Our first year has gone by quickly and we’re proud to have achieved so many milestones and met with many industry leaders who are enthusiastic and supportive of our Hub and the UK National Quantum Technology Programme.

We’re busy preparing our first Annual Report where you’ll be able to have a full picture of what QuantIC has been up last year but for now, we hope this newsletter will serve to wet your appetite, letting you know what we’ve been up to in the last quarter of 2015 as well as alerting you to some upcoming developments.

QuantIC announces three new partnership projects to kick off 2016
Industrial collaboration at QuantIC has got off to a flying start in 2016. The Hub has awarded three more partnership resource grants which have been evaluated by the industry led Market Opportunities Panel. Read more.

QuantIC launches new studentship programme
QuantIC is excited to announce the launch of a new studentship programme and is recruiting for up to ten fully funded industrial studentships in quantum imaging. Read more.

QuantIC’s new Innovation Space is offering companies FREE use of its new optical labs and hot desking facilities. Read more.

QuantIC’s Steve Beaumont wins award for outstanding contribution to knowledge exchange
QuantIC’s Director, Professor Steve Beaumont was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution to Knowledge Exchange” at the inaugural Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards held in Edinburgh on 25 Feb 2016. Read More.

Glasgow Chamber of Commerce visits QuantIC
In February, Stuart Patrick, the Chief Executive of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce,visited QuantIC to learn more about the Hub. Read more.

New research from QuantIC published in leading photonics journals
QuantIC had new research papers published in Nature Photonics and Optica, on “Detection and tracking of moving objects hidden from view” and “Photon-sparse microscopy: Visible light imaging using infrared illumination”. Read more.

Let’s learn Quantum Physics! QuantIC delivers workshop for teachers
QuantIC, in partnership with the Scottish Schools Education Research Centre (SSERC) conducted a pilot Quantum Physics workshop for teachers, which was held at the University of Glasgow last November. The workshop aimed to provide a better understanding of the subject through up to date research and real life examples of quantum technology in action by QuantIC’s researchers. Read more.

Industrial Collaboration at the speed of light: QuantIC at the UK National Quantum Technology Showcase 2015
QuantIC led on the delivery of the inaugural UK National Quantum Technology Showcase which was held at The Royal Society in London on 11 November 2015. The oversubscribed event generated a lot of excitement from industry on what the UK National Quantum Technology Programme had to offer. Read more.

Minister Jo Johnson visits QuantIC
Minister for Universities and Science Jo Johnson paid a visit to the University of Glasgow last October and specifically requested to meet QuantIC and we were more than happy to oblige. Read more.

Welcome to the first edition of the QuantIC newsletter, highlighting what we’ve been up to as well as the latest developments in the Hub.

It’s been a very busy few months; since our official launch at Glasgow Science Centre earlier this year, we have hosted a Quantum Imaging Workshop between US and UK academics, awarded our first industry led partnership resource projects and have had our scientists awarded prestigious fellowships.
