QuantIC premieres UK screening of international Quantum Shorts film festival

QuantIC is proud to present the UK Premiere screening of Quantum Shorts – the weird and wonderful world of quantum physics on film at Glasgow Science Centre on Friday 17 March 2017. The Hub is the only UK scientific partner for the international Quantum Shorts film festival which is organised by Centre for Quantum Technologies Singapore (CQT) and supported by the Nature Publishing Group. Glasgow Science Centre is QuantIC’s screening partner.

The ten shortlisted films from around the world were chosen from a total of 203 submissions received during the festival’s 2016 call for entries. Some of the finalists are dramatic, some funny, some abstract. Some are live-action film, some animation. Each is under five minutes long. The festival’s top prize of US $1500 and runner-up prize of US $1000 will now be decided by a panel of eminent judges. The additional People’s Choice prize of $500 will be decided by public vote on the shortlist. Prizes will be announced by the end of March. More information on the festival and the films can be found on shorts.quantumlah.org.

On Friday 17 March, the UK Premiere Screening of Quantum Shorts will give audiences a chance to view these films on the big screen with a lively discussion on the “quantum inspiration” of these films and an opportunity to view some of QuantIC’s research in quantum imaging. This event is also part of the Glasgow Short Film Festival and British Science Week 2017.
