Hidden Markov Model Symposium, 13th February 2014
Date: 13th February 2014
Location: Graham Kerr Building, Lecture Theatre 2
Organisers: James Grecian, Grant Hopcraft
Overview
This symposium offered a general introduction to Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) with a focus on their applications to ecological problems. HMMs are increasingly popular tools to analyse large and complex datasets due to their computational tractability and mathematical simplicity when compared to more complex Bayesian state-space models. The symposium opened with a morning session introducing HMMs, then during the afternoon session we heard from a number of invited speakers discussing the applications of HMMs to their research.
