Who are we
The Centre for Computing Science Education brings together academics, researchers and students across the University, particularly the Schools of Computing Science, Education, Psychology and Business, as well as those outside, including industry, the Scottish Qualifications Authority, and Education Scotland.
The Centre blends activities in research, practice and policy. Staff in the Centre led the development of the Scottish CS curriculum and advised on the qualifications for CS, covering all school ages from 3-18. A team of PhD students are investigating particular areas of CS education, from early years learning through to tertiary education, considering both the underlying cognitive processes required in learning CS as well as practical pedagogical techniques. We have developed good relationships with teachers and Education Scotland over the years, through collaborative professional development programmes for school teachers, and this connection with practice ensures that our research work is appropriately focussed.
