Scientists at the CVR have unraveled the evolutionary history of the RL11 gene family in cytomegaloviruses (CMVs). Using bioinformatics and phylogenetic tools, they discovered RL11 genes are exclusive to CMVs in Old World monkeys and great apes, providing insights into virus-host coevolution and immune evasion.
