Vacation Studentships at the CVR
The CVR is pleased to consider requests to host undergraduate vacation studentships.
Vacation studentships provide a very different experience from laboratory classes, allowing you to carry out original research and engage in the daily routine of working in an active research institute. They are an excellent way of learning if a career in research is something that might appeal to you. Because of this, they provide important training for students who are considering postgraduate research degrees or careers in research.
We strongly encourage potential vacation students to collaborate with us on applications for externally-funded studentships. As well as applying for a salary in order to make this training accessible to all, regardless of their financial circumstances, the application process for a studentship allows students and supervisors to prepare properly for an effective project and, if awarded, a studentship can increase your competitiveness when applying for future training and jobs.
Most vacation studentship schemes in the UK fund undergraduate students to carry out research in a summer vacation before they graduate, and so are for students who have not yet reached the final year of their degree. Application deadlines for the summer are typically around the start of the calendar year. We therefore encourage interested students to explore our website to get an idea of research activities in the CVR and then, where possible, to make an initial enquiry during the autumn before they wish to undertake a studentship.
To apply, please complete the Vacation Studentship Application Form and email it to cvr-vacationstudents@glasgow.ac.uk We will aim to put you in touch with a potential supervisor, and if they are able to support your application you will work with them to prepare applications to external funders. Examples of funders offering vacation studentships are listed.
