CIRIA Code of Practice for flood resilient properties
Published: 3 April 2017
The Code of Practice advises on the methods and standards for property level protection against flooding.
The CIRIA Code of Practice (CoP) was created by a cosortium led by BRE and published by CIRIA. The NCR was one funder alongside Aviva, the Environment Agency, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and the Department for Infrastructure, Northern Ireland.
The CoP is concerned with property flood resilience (PFR) measures that can be introduced to buildings at risk from flooding. Often these measures can be installed as part of the repair of buildings after they have been flooded or fitted in anticipation of a flood.
PFR includes measures that reduce the risks to people and property enabling households and businesses to reduce flood damage, speed up recovery and reoccupation. PFR measures reduce the amount of water entering buildings (resistance measures), or limit the damage caused if water does enter a building (recovery measures).
The CoP includes six standards that specify what should be achieved.
