Andrew Dunlop is currently a member of the House of Lords and its Communications and Digital Select Committee.
He also served for five years on its Constitution Committee. Earlier in his career he was the first special adviser to the UK Defence Secretary and a member of Margaret Thatcher’s Policy Unit. He went on to found and run for 20 years his own strategic communications consultancy.
In 2012 he returned to government as Prime Minister David Cameron’s Constitutional and Devolution Policy Adviser. Between 2015 and 2017 he served as a minister in the Scotland and Northern Ireland Offices. In 2019 he was commissioned by Theresa May to undertake an independent review of the UK Government’s Union Capability.
He is currently a board director of Scottish Swimming and a Trustee of the Hansard Society.
I’m delighted to join the new Centre for Public Policy's advisory board, and to be part of one of Scotland's and the UK’s great universities. This is an exciting and much needed initiative. How public policy is developed and decisions are taken is under scrutiny as never before. I’m confident the Centre will provide valuable support and expertise to help improve public policy outcomes. I only wish it had been a resource available when I was a government minister!
