Autumn started with the launch of two opportunities to foster connections: our World Food Day photography competition, Food for Thought: Capturing the Big Picture and the launch of the new 'Create, Innovate, Participate' fund. The fund invites SCAF members to design and deliver activities and events that align with the Alliance's vision and mission, and the photography competition welcomes submissions that capture the multifaceted nature of food; from mapping food networks to exploring cultural heritage. We look forward to receiving entries to both competition and fund to showcase the broad appeal and relevance of food across systems, disciplines and sectors.

In October, SCAF also hosted two webinars. The 'Yes to Veg!' webinar, in partnership with Nourish Scotland, shared insights from the University of Glasgow's evaluation of early years vegetable consumption, and the seaweed webinar explored the potential of macroalgae as an ingredient in food development and their perception among UK consumers. Look out for the recordings on Slack.

Looking ahead, we look forward to further fostering these connections and conversations that make SCAF a vibrant hub for food research in Scotland in beyond. Check out the new published paper review feature in the SCAF newsletter which highlights monthly outputs from across the membership. You can subscribe here.

We close October with the reviewing of applications for the inaugural mentorship travel bursary that aims to facilitate meaningful connections between early/mid-career professionals and mentors, and preparing to share the successful projects funded in the second round of pump-priming.

More announcements are coming up in November! Be sure to keep up to date on all upcoming events and funding opportunities on our social media channels and on Slack.
