At this webinar, Ed Pybus will take a look at what crofting is, how it combines with community ownership to provide access to land and opportunities for small scale food productions, and the specific issues that the crofting community on the Isle of Eigg face. Ed will discuss how these issues can be addressed and the wider implications for small scale food production on Eigg. We will also hear from Neil Robertson, crofter on the Isle of Eigg, on his own experiences of living and crofting on the island for nearly 35 years. Chaired by Prof John Crawford.

Ed Pybus, Independent policy research - Crow Consulting
Ed is currently an independent policy consultant with an interest in crofting, social security as well as poverty, housing, childcare, environmental justice, and community ownership. He is Chair of the Scottish Commission on Social Security. He and his family are tenants on a woodland croft in Argyll.
Neil Robertson, Crofter on the Isle of Eigg
Neil has been living and crofting on The Isle of Eigg for almost 35 years. He has a horticultural background having completed a Diploma (DHE) at Edinburgh Botanics. He and his wife Sue grow organic vegetables for their family's own consumption and for farm gate sales.
Neil's family are self-sufficient in vegetables for most of the year and produce meat from their flock of Soay sheep and eggs from their hens.
