The Beniba Centre for Slavery Studies invites applications for research fellowships of up to three months’ duration in any discipline focused on Transatlantic trade in enslaved peoples and its consequences.

The successful applicants will be supported with travel costs (up to £2,000) and a stipend of £2,500 per month; office accommodation in a relevant University of Glasgow school or research institute, library access, IT support and assistance with finding residential accommodation in Glasgow will also be provided.

The successful applicants will be asked to give one public lecture on an aspect of their research, and to take part in a seminar involving academics and postgraduate research students.

The fellowships may be held at any three-month period during the period January 2022-July 2023.

Visiting Fellow eligibility:

  • academic from another institution
  • hold a doctorate or equivalent professional qualification in their research field
  • established research track record

Consideration will be given to:

  • The anticipated contribution the applicant will make to the Centre
  • The quality of the proposed project or activity
  • The fit between the applicant's research interests and the Centre
  • The appropriateness of the proposed outputs
