UrbanByNature

UrbanByNature is a facilitated capacity-building programme, created by ICLEI Europe, promoting exchange among cities, researchers, SMEs and NGOs to build bridges with the nature-based solutions communities across Europe, Asia, Latin America and other interested regions.

Regional hubs are a strong and central tool for networking on nature-based solutions. UrbanbyNature is one such entity holding regular meetings with hubs in various regions across the globe to build capacity on nature-based solutions.

Gillian Dick, Spatial Planning Manager at Glasgow City Council says, "Glasgow is delighted to be hosting the Scottish hub, one of three European based hubs for UrbanByNature that have launched in the last year. Through a series of regular “lunch & learns” the hub will support the integration of nature-based solutions into both national, regional and local communities."

The UrbanByNature Scottish hub launched at Growchapel Community Garden in Drumchapel, Glasgow on Friday 22nd April 2022. Representatives from SEPA, Nature Scot, University of Glasgow, Strathclyde University, Glasgow City council and local charities welcomed the aim of the hub to provide a series of lunch and learn sessions. The sessions launched in autumn 2022 and are hosted online from 12.00-13.00 UK time. The sessions allow folk to join from all over Scotland and the wider English speaking community.  Each session consists of 3 ten minute talks followed by up to 30 mins for conversation and Q&A. The online sessions are recorded for easy replay and are supplemented by knowledge exchange opportunities at locations across Scotland.

"The Centre for Sustainable Solutions is excited to continue its collaboration with Glasgow City Council to launch, support and co-organise the UrbanbyNature Scottish hub. There are many innovations happening in nature-based solutions and it is crucial that we share and learn from each others' successes and challenges globally." Prof Jaime Toney, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Solutions.
