The Centre for Teaching Excellence (CfTE) is the new national centre for Scotland’s teachers, funded by the Scottish Government and hosted by the University of Glasgow. Our mission is to support teachers, schools, and policymakers in delivering equitable, high-quality education that meets the needs of all teachers in Scotland.

The Centre will provide support for all of Scotland’s teachers, including those working in Gaelic medium education, to access, create and use research to enhance teaching and learning.

It’s important to ensure that the Centre’s work directly reflects the needs and aspirations of Scotland’s teachers. To help us better understand those needs, we’re asking teachers across the country to take the CfTE National Teacher Survey and tell us what matters to you.

No matter where you work or how long you’ve been teaching, the survey is your chance to tell us about your experience and to help direct research that will benefit teachers in schools across Scotland.

In addition, we are looking to appoint a number of experienced teachers on a part-time, secondment basis to help take forward the Centre’s research priorities.

Secondment opportunities of up to 0.4fte are available for teachers across Scotland. Based in one of our reginal hubs, the successful applicants will coordinate and lead Centre activities through a series of online and in-person activities.  The secondments will run from August 2025 to March 2026, with positions supported by government funding and facilitated by local authority endorsement.

These posts provide an opportunity not only to enhance professional development but also to play a pivotal role in supporting the development of teaching and learning in Scotland.
